Chapter 2726 — Weak Again

The Blossom Guardian · Page 1 of 2

Had she been too tired yesterday? That could not be it... Wang Xinyan had gone to school as usual yesterday, and after coming home in the evening she had done nothing strenuous. Since Wei Zhao needed to continue his cultivation, she had gone to bed early. So why was she so drowsy today?

Still, since Wang Xinyan had said as much, Wei Zhao had no choice but to leave her be. He came out, said a few words to Gu Mengyao, and started on breakfast. He packed a portion for Wang Xinyan in a lunchbox, planning to bring it to school for her to eat later.

Wei Zhao had delayed leaving for school as long as he reasonably could, but even so, when Wang Xinyan got up she was still bleary-eyed, as though she had not slept at all. She followed him groggily into the car, and once seated, fell asleep again...

"Wei Zhao, has Xinyan fallen ill again? Could you examine her in a bit?" Gu Mengyao felt something was off about Wang Xinyan. She had not been like this yesterday—when Wei Zhao had gone to the ancient tomb, Wang Xinyan had risen in the morning looking quite spirited, utterly unlike today. How could one day make such a difference?

"All right, I will examine her once we get to school," Wei Zhao said with a nod.

When they reached school and parked the car, Wang Xinyan had to get up whether she wanted to or not—she could hardly walk and sleep at the same time. She had not yet mastered the art of sleepwalking.

"How about I carry you to the classroom?" Wei Zhao asked, seeing how truly exhausted she was.

"Ah..." Wang Xinyan nearly let herself be tempted into agreeing, but then she remembered that they could not provoke Kang Jinglong at school, so she gritted her teeth and shook her head. "No need. I can walk on my own."

"All right." Wei Zhao did not insist, and the two of them went to the classroom together.

Wang Xinyan's head felt heavy and her steps unsteady; several times she nearly fell. When they reached her seat in the classroom, she took advantage of Instructor Bai's absence to drop her head and sleep. Wei Zhao seized the chance to examine her, and found that Wang Xinyan's body, which had only just begun to recover, was once again showing signs of weakness. This gave Wei Zhao a jolt of alarm.

Day after day, Wang Xinyan had been drinking the medicinal tonic Wei Zhao prepared for her. By all reason her health should have been improving, so why was it instead growing worse? Wei Zhao frowned, utterly baffled. Last night Wang Xinyan had looked full of vigor, and by this morning everything had changed...

Wei Zhao had no time to ponder further, for Instructor Bai walked into the classroom and began a new day of lessons.

Seeing how truly exhausted Wang Xinyan was, Wei Zhao did not disturb her or call her up to listen to the lecture. Instead he took her notebook and began taking notes for her. He did not need to take notes himself—after all, he was a specially privileged student of Instructor Bai's, and attended the lectures purely out of interest.

Kang Jinglong watched Wei Zhao and Wang Xinyan, a shadow flickering through his eyes. He wondered how his younger brother, Kang Jingming, was faring at the Xuandan Sect and what standing he had attained there. Day after day, watching his fiancée grow close to another man filled him with intense displeasure.

"Brother Kang, how about you call your brother and ask how he is doing?" You Panhu, sensing Kang Jinglong's displeasure, made the suggestion.

"I would like to ask, but I dare not," Kang Jinglong said with a bitter smile. "You know as well as I do that our Kang family was not even an ordinary noble house. How could we possibly converse with an ancient sect? When Kang Jingming left, it was through your hidden You family that he communicated with us. If we went straight to the Xuandan Sect, never mind whether they would even give us the time of day—even if they did, we have no way to contact them!"
