"A plan to win the beauty?" Gu Mengyao was stunned. She looked at Xiao Shu for a long while, confirming that she was probably not talking nonsense, before saying, "You mean we should give Wei Zhao a hand?"
"Yes. Only when Wei Zhao and Xinyan are together can he forget..." Shen Yushu blinked. "Otherwise, Xiao Shu will never feel at ease..."
Shen Yushu left her sentence half-finished, never making clear just what she was uneasy about—was it Gu Mengyao she was uneasy about, or Wei Zhao?
"Then... what do you plan to do?" Gu Mengyao asked after a moment's hesitation. She was rather supportive of Shen Yushu's proposal. If she did not like Wang Xinyan, she would never have invited her to visit the house. The plan had been shelved because of the kidnapping incident, but that did not stop Gu Mengyao from leaning toward having Wang Xinyan become Wei Zhao's primary wife.
"Let's go upstairs and study it, and work out a detailed plan!" With that, Shen Yushu took Gu Mengyao by the hand and headed upstairs...
After leaving Wei Zhao's villa, Wang Xinyan hailed a taxi and returned to school. Wu Chengtian followed at a distance, watching her enter the dormitory building before leaving with Old Master Pi and the others in relief.
Wang Xinyan's heart was in turmoil. She had never expected Wei Zhao to confess to her at a moment like this. She was not ready—more precisely, her own affairs were not yet settled...
She had turned him down. Would he be unhappy? It suddenly occurred to Wang Xinyan that running off like this might be a kind of hurt to Wei Zhao. Should she... call him and explain?
Tell him... her own difficulties? That she had a fiancé and had not yet broken off the engagement? Wei Zhao surely knew about this, yet he had still confessed to her—was he trying to put her in an awkward position? Wang Xinyan had been a good child, obedient since childhood, so when it came to marriage, though she had been rather unwilling at first, she had reluctantly agreed under her family's intervention.
After all, she had no one she liked. Kang Jinglong seemed on the surface to be decent enough—a doctoral graduate in medicine—and the Kang family was a medical dynasty! But during a meal in Yanjing, when she saw how Kang Jinglong fawned over Wu Chengtian, Wang Xinyan felt that Kang Jinglong was not as good as the rumors made him out to be—somewhat hypocritical and sinister—and she had even less fondness for him in her heart.
Only because of family reasons had she not said much.
But now things were different. Wang Xinyan had someone she liked, and she no longer wished to be bound by fate; she did not want to marry Kang Jinglong! For the first time in her life, Wang Xinyan felt a spirit of rebellion, a desire to overturn her family's decision. She even felt an urgent impulse—once back in her dormitory, to call her parents and cancel the engagement with the Kang family!
