Chapter 2189 — Things Look Bad

"I... I didn't do it on purpose. Besides, I was about to back into that space—you snatched my spot. If you hadn't, I couldn't have hit you..." Bai Weituo frowned; the man's bullying manner left him feeling wronged. Even if he was in the wrong for the crash, surely they couldn't be entirely blameless either?
"Snatched your spot? This is a public space. Is it your family's? First come, first served. If you'd been quick enough to get in first, then hitting you would be my responsibility!" The other owner curled his lip with insolent contempt.
"Fine... even if it's entirely our fault, I'll call the insurance company and have them fix the car—that's acceptable, isn't it?" Bai Weituo, being at fault after all, could only swallow his anger and say it.
"Fix it? Don't you see this car is new? It isn't even registered yet—I only picked it up today. Fix a brand-new car? Would you be willing?"
"Well... then what do you want?" Bai Weituo said, helpless.
"Young Master Bing's car is brand new—one and a half million. You put up one and a half million, and the car is yours!"
"You... isn't that extortion?" Bai Weituo was stunned; he hadn't expected such a demand.
"Extortion? Call it that if you like, but the money is coming out of your pocket regardless." The man sneered with arrogance. "Nobody has ever hit Young Master Bing's car and walked away unharmed!"
In truth it was extortion. The car had cost him only a bit over 1.1 million; the 1.5 million was a figure he had pulled out of thin air.
"You..." Bai Weituo hadn't expected the man to be like this. "If you keep being this unreasonable, I'm calling the police!"
"Call them, go right ahead. But I've memorized your face. From now on, Donghai City won't be a place where you can make a living—you and your friends. Tsk, tsk..." the man said, unhurried.
Wei Zhao hadn't wanted to get out of the car, but seeing that Bai Weituo couldn't settle it and that the other driver was clearly angling for a shakedown, he knew he had no choice.
To Wei Zhao this had looked like an ordinary traffic accident—call the insurance company, get the car fixed, done. He hadn't expected such a pile of trouble.
"So you mean you want us to buy this car?" Wei Zhao asked, looking at the other car's owner.
The demand wasn't strictly unreasonable, but a Cayenne in this trim went for just over 1.1 million; asking 1.5 million was barefaced extortion.
"That's right! One and a half million, and we forget today ever happened. Otherwise, you'll be sorry!" the man swaggered. But then his gaze landed on Wei Zhao, and he made a strangled "gah"—and could not get another word out...
Wei Zhao frowned. This fellow must have a screw loose, he thought—jumping out of his skin like that. Then he heard the man ask cautiously: "You... you-you-you... are you Wei Zhao?"
"You know me?" Wei Zhao looked at him oddly. He had never seen this man in his life.
"I..." Hearing Wei Zhao admit it, the driver groaned inwardly. What rotten luck—of all the people to shake down, he had to pick this one!
Wei Zhao glanced at him—a stranger—then raised a hand and rapped on the Cayenne's window. "You're just the driver. Tell your boss to come out and talk to me, and we'll see how this car gets handled!"
Zhao Qibing had been watching his underling strut his stuff outside and hadn't meant to interfere. But when he suddenly saw a familiar figure step down from the Audi Q7, he knew at once this was bad! He prayed his little brother would have the sense to smooth things over and get out fast, and not get into a slanging match with Wei Zhao—and then Wei Zhao went and knocked on the window!
There was nothing for it. Zhao Qibing got out of the car, his face wreathed in smiles, and greeted Wei Zhao: "Hi—"
"Zhao Qibing?" Wei Zhao hadn't expected it to be Zhao Qibing in the car. He'd heard the driver say "Young Master Bing," but there were plenty of people called that—the coincidence hadn't crossed his mind.
