So in You Panhu's eyes, Wei Zhao was in fact a little afraid he would report him to Leader Bai. Since he had already shown it to Han Jingyi, showing it to You Panhu as well would make no difference—it was only that You Panhu had not yet offered anything to tempt him, and that was why Wei Zhao had refused.
"Oh? What sort of things?" Wei Zhao hesitated a moment, then asked.
"If you want to trade, I can call my eldest uncle and ask his leave," You Panhu said.
Wei Zhao fell silent, as though weighing the pros and cons of the whole affair. Yet the more he did so, the more convinced You Panhu became that this was workable! If the material were not so important, Wei Zhao would not be so cautious.
"First tell me what treasure you'd trade for it. If it really is something good, then..." Wei Zhao trailed off, then added, "You know what I mean..."
"Haha, I know, I know. Don't worry—once I've read it myself, that's the end of it; I won't breathe a word," You Panhu said, delighted. He nodded and returned to his seat. Class was about to begin; if he lingered there, he would surely rouse Leader Bai's suspicions. Besides, he needed to confer with his two henchmen, Yellow Hair and Purple Hair, about just which treasure would be best to trade.
"Never mind. I'll give it to you tonight when we get back—You Panhu is watching us right now!" Wei Zhao said to Han Jingyi.
"Mm-hm, Jingjing understands. Brother Wei Zhao is going to fleece him again," Han Jingyi said with a nod.
"Heh..." Wei Zhao smiled.
Han Jingyi went back to studying her tablet, while Wei Zhao turned to Wang Xinyan. After a moment's hesitation, he asked, "Xinyan, are you free tonight?"
"Tonight? You mean this evening?" Wang Xinyan did not quite follow him.
"Yes. If you're free, let's go see a movie together," Wei Zhao said.
"Huh? Together... a movie?" Wang Xinyan was taken aback, but then her face flushed. Was he asking her out? Should she... say yes? She realized that at some point she had begun to waver; she had a fiancé, yet she also felt an urge to accept.
"Yes. Bai Weituo is going on his first date with He Meiyue today, and he insisted we come along to keep him company," Wei Zhao said.
"I see... I don't seem to have anything on, so I'll go..." Wang Xinyan breathed a sigh of relief, and yet felt a pang of disappointment. So Wei Zhao was not asking her on a date after all—he was asking her to chaperone someone else's.
Still, that reason let Wang Xinyan justify it to herself quite properly: she was only going to the movies to keep Wei Zhao company.
"The cinema can get hot. You might want to wear a little less..." Wei Zhao had no intention of missing this fine opportunity to cultivate. The movies held far less appeal for him than the scent of Wang Xinyan herself. Since he was going to the movies with her, how could he not seize the chance to cultivate?
