"Hello, Xu Shilan. I'm Bai Weituo, class monitor of the pharmaceutical program, and one of Brother Lin's boys!" Bai Weituo ran up to Xu Shilan and introduced himself.
"Hehe, hello! Since you're the class monitor, why don't you tell me how your rehearsal is going? To save time, I'll first take a look at your progress, and then we'll decide on the next arrangements—sound good?" Having heard that Bai Weituo was Wei Zhao's boy, Xu Shilan treated him with great warmth, which made Bai Weituo feel immensely flattered.
Xu Shilan didn't put on any celebrity airs at all, which amazed the students present. They hadn't expected Wei Zhao to be so capable—not only had he managed to invite Xu Shilan, but she was also perfectly polite and very amiable.
Even You Panhu was green with envy, grumbling inwardly: What on earth was Wei Zhao capable of, that even Xu Shilan held him in such high regard?
"Alright, alright, I'll tell you right away..." Bai Weituo nodded hastily.
Wei Zhao, however, didn't stay to listen to Bai Weituo's introduction. He simply returned to his own seat. The rehearsal had nothing to do with him, and Wei Zhao didn't care.
"You don't seem to chase after stars?" Wei Zhao looked at Wang Xinyan in slight surprise, finding that every time he saw her, she was always so serene—as still and clear as a pool of water, without the slightest ripple of emotion.
From the moment Wei Zhao entered the classroom, Wang Xinyan had been flipping through the textbook in front of her. Even when Wei Zhao walked over and sat down, she merely looked up and gave him a gentle smile, then returned to her book.
"I really like her songs—most of the tracks on my MP3 player are hers. But as for chasing stars..." Wang Xinyan shook her head with a hint of regret. "Even though I'd like to, I don't have that much time to waste. In the limited time I have, I'd rather savor my university life to the fullest..."
"Limited time?" Wei Zhao was briefly taken aback. He immediately thought of her engagement to Kang Jinglong. He opened his mouth as if to say something, then closed it again—after all, in what capacity could he possibly tell Wang Xinyan to refuse the engagement with the Kang family?
"Some things, you fight against them. When there's no way to fight anymore, all you can do is accept your fate." Wang Xinyan's expression seemed quite composed, but Wei Zhao knew that few people could truly be composed about such a matter.
Wei Zhao simply didn't know how to put it into words, so he could only take things one step at a time. If he could make the Kang family collapse as soon as possible, perhaps Wang Xinyan would be freed of much of her burden.
To Wei Zhao's surprise, Han Jingyi was also bent over her desk, studying something—scribbling and sketching away. The notebook before her was already covered with a large mass of data and formulas that made Wei Zhao's head spin.
