"What do you mean, confident? That you'll draw Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu?" Wei Zhao asked.
"Yes. I sneaked over earlier to check for you. The slip with Shen Yushu's name on it is slightly shorter than the others — it's the last one and there's no cardboard backing left on it. If you compare carefully, you can tell them apart. But Gu Mengyao's is no different from the rest." Kang** said in a low voice.
"Not bad, you little rascal, going off and playing spy." Wei Zhao chuckled. "So how about this — when the time comes, you draw Xiaoshu's slip. No problem, right?"
"What? No way, I wouldn't dare!" Kang** shook his head vigorously at the thought. Setting aside the fact that Xiaoshu would inevitably become Wei Zhao's woman — and therefore Kang**'s sister-in-law — even if that weren't the case, he had a girlfriend now. If Xiaofen found out, wouldn't she blow her top?
So hearing Wei Zhao's suggestion, Kang** naturally refused again and again.
"Heh, can't you designate someone else? When the time comes, just designate me." Wei Zhao laughed.
"That's true!" Kang**'s eyes lit up. "Alright, Boss, leave it to me — mission guaranteed to be completed!"
The boys who had drawn their lots all scurried away to the side, furtive and cautious, to peek at their slips. Those who had drawn a girl they fancied naturally beamed with delight, but those who hadn't wore sour expressions, racking their brains over whom to swap with!
The unluckiest of all were those who had no particular girl in mind yet somehow drew a slip belonging to someone they didn't get along with — what a headache! And of course, there were those who drew an ugly girl, their faces turning the color of sauerkraut.
When it was Wei Zhao's turn, he reached into the box and, following the spot Gao Xiaofu had described, found a slip wedged into the crevice at the corner of the box. After pocketing it, he casually stuffed another slip back in.
After Wei Zhao finished drawing, it was Kang**'s turn. He rummaged around in the box for quite a while before finally locating the shortened slip. Fortunately, both of them had drawn early — otherwise, if someone else had picked it up first, Wei Zhao would have had no choice but to seize it by force!
Then again, even if Shen Yushu's slip did end up in someone else's hands, no one would dare refuse to hand it back to Wei Zhao — besides being afraid of Shen Yushu, they were equally afraid of Wei Zhao!
"Boss, mission accomplished!" After drawing his lot, Kang** announced happily to Wei Zhao.
"Good." Wei Zhao nodded and walked over to Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu.
"So, Arrow Bro, did you draw Xiaoshu?" Shen Yushu asked eagerly.
Wei Zhao smiled faintly and handed the slip in his hand to Shen Yushu.
Seeing Wei Zhao's gesture, Shen Yushu thought he had drawn her name and was instantly overjoyed. But when she read the name on the slip, a wave of disappointment washed over her — though some happiness lingered. "Sis Yaoyao, it's you!"
"Is that so..." An inexplicable thrill surged through Gu Mengyao's heart, though on the surface she remained perfectly composed. "It's alright, I suppose. Better than an unfamiliar classmate, anyway."
"Heh..." Wei Zhao chuckled and said nothing more.
Shen Yushu, on the other hand, looked left and right, trying to spot who had drawn her slip. She was planning to go and have that person designate Wei Zhao — otherwise, hmph, Shen Yushu wouldn't let him get away with it! Let someone else kiss her? What a joke!
"What are you looking for?" Wei Zhao asked, amused.
"I want to see who drew my slip," Shen Yushu said.
"Yours is with Kang**," Wei Zhao laughed.
"Huh?" Shen Yushu blinked in surprise, then understood at once and broke into a delighted smile. "Yay! He's going to designate you, right?"
"Should be," Wei Zhao replied with a rueful smile.
"Ooooh!" Shen Yushu was thrilled. "I've already kissed Arrow Bro directly before, but I've never tried this kind of safe kiss..."
