Chapter 1550 — Yaoyao's Rebuttal, Part 2

The Blossom Guardian · Page 2 of 2

"Officer Song, it would seem you do indeed have a very deep connection with the suspect," Wang Hekan said now, his tone oily and insinuating. "Please mind your position and refrain from doing anything you'll regret. Know that I have my eyes on you, and at any moment I can report your every move to your superiors."

Qiu Lingshan was thoroughly infuriated by Wang Hekan. She drew a deep breath and said, "Detective Wang, I don't need you reminding me about my own affairs."

"Hmph!" Wang Hekan let out a cold laugh and said nothing more.

However, Gu Mengyao's words had struck a chord with Qiu Lingshan, prompting a question of critical importance: exactly when had the first bank robbery occurred -- during the tomb raid she had undertaken with Chen Yuxuan and Wei Zhao, or after the day they had parted ways at the tomb's exit?

Inside the ancient tomb, they had seen no sunlight for days on end. Their phones and electronic devices had tumbled into the abyss along with their luggage when the floor of the underground palace tilted, shattering to pieces. After that, there was no longer any concept of time within the tomb -- they did not know when to rest or when to resume walking. Yet after emerging from the tomb, Qiu Lingshan and Chen Yuxuan discovered that all their communication devices were either broken or lost, and they had no way to contact headquarters. They could only walk to the nearest town on foot, and at the time they had paid no attention to the passage of time either.

But if Qiu Lingshan could somehow determine the exact moment she and Wei Zhao had parted ways, wouldn't that clear his name? The trouble was, the tomb raid was a classified matter -- even Liu Wangli and the others could not be told outright. Qiu Lingshan could only discuss it with Chen Yuxuan after returning to see if he happened to remember the time.

There were also two other important figures: Yu Xiaoke and Elder Yu. But Qiu Lingshan had no way to approach either of them directly.

"Here's what we'll do. Since Wei Zhao has already departed, did he leave by car?" Liu Wangli knew he would get nowhere pressing Qiu Lingshan about Wei Zhao's whereabouts, and from the look of it, Qiu Lingshan knew just as much as Gu Mengyao and the rest. So Liu Wangli pivoted to asking about something else.

"No." Gu Mengyao shook her head. "He drove someone else's car. His own car is parked in the garage beneath Feng Xiaoxiao's building -- for all we know, it's been stolen."

"Do you have a key to that garage?" Liu Wangli asked.

"I do..." Gu Mengyao hesitated a moment, then nodded.

"Good. Would you come with us to the garage and take a look at the car? If it really is a vehicle running stolen plates, then there must be subtle discrepancies in certain small details -- and that could help clear Wei Zhao of suspicion," Liu Wangli said.

"All right..." Gu Mengyao wavered briefly before agreeing. "Shall we leave now?"

"Yes, let's go right away!" Liu Wangli said. "The sooner we get there, the sooner we can resolve this." (To be continued)
