"The Sun family is the Sun family; I am me. My sister and I get along quite well." Sun Yikai smiled wryly. "I'm not the head of the Sun family, nor the heir, so there are things I have no say in. And you can see for yourself that I'm very much against crooked, underhanded ways."
"I can see that. I have a good impression of you — otherwise I wouldn't have helped you out." Wei Zhao said, "But there's nothing between your sister and me. I'm only posing as her boyfriend, to fool Wu Chengtian."
"Oh?" Sun Yikai was taken aback. He had not expected Wei Zhao to say that. "You're saying you're a fake?"
"I have a girlfriend. She's right over there, chatting with Xu Shilan." Wei Zhao pointed at Feng Xiaoxiao. "So as for your sister and me, don't agonize over it. There was never anything to begin with."
"So that's how it is!" Sun Yikai did not doubt him. As he saw it, Wei Zhao had no reason to lie. Anyone else, if he really were Sun Jingyan's boyfriend, would be falling over himself to curry favor with the brother-in-law — how could he possibly claim to be a fake?
And he had even gone out of his way to state that he had a girlfriend — which was as good as cutting off any chance entirely. If Wei Zhao truly had something with Sun Jingyan, he surely would never have said such a thing.
"Sun Jingyan seems rather pitiable? Losing her parents when she was little?" Wei Zhao asked.
"Yes. My sister's origins are truly pitiable. She wasn't born a Sun — she's my aunt's child. It's just that my aunt and uncle both died by foul play, and my sister was raised by the Sun family and had her surname changed to Sun." Sun Yikai did not conceal it. Since Sun Jingyan could ask Wei Zhao to pose as her boyfriend, and Wei Zhao knew a few things about the Sun family, they must be very close; there was nothing improper in saying this.
"I see. No wonder she's so stubborn." Wei Zhao said, "But she and Wu Chengtian really aren't suited. Wu Chengtian — his intelligence is truly lacking, but aside from being a bit arrogant, he has no real malice."
"I don't think they're suited either, which is why I don't pay him much mind when he tries to cozy up to me," Sun Yikai said with a nod. "But my family wants to bring the marriage about.
