Chapter 1214 — Who Sleeps on the Sofa?

Feng Xiaoxiao, meanwhile, reacted by reflex. With a whoosh, she sprang up from the sofa and mumbled drowsily, "Wei Zhao, dear, you're better? Want something to eat? I'll go fix it."
Wei Zhao looked at the two of them, moved and yet at a loss whether to laugh or cry. "You're tired, so get some rest. I'll find something to eat myself."
"We're not tired—we already slept for a bit before. The dishes are all ready; they just need to be put in the pan." Feng Xiaoxiao waved a hand and rubbed her eyes.
Tang Zhi also stood up. "It just so happens we haven't eaten either. Once it's ready, we'll all eat together."
Looking at them, Wei Zhao could not help sighing. Had he known this would be the outcome, why would he have experimented with breaking through? How much better it would have been to come out of the jade pendant space a little earlier! He had wasted so much time and done so much useless work. He might as well have stayed up at night and slowly studied the breakthrough when he had nothing else to do!
"Then let's go. I'll help you cook." Wei Zhao nodded.
Once they reached the kitchen, Tang Zhi and Feng Xiaoxiao were both surprised to discover that Wei Zhao's cooking was better than either of theirs. He moved quickly, yet showed no sign of hurry; instead, everything was orderly and unhurried.
Unconsciously, the two women became Wei Zhao's assistants, passing him seasonings and plates. Before long, dish after dish, perfect in color, aroma, and taste, was set out on the table.
"Wei Zhao, dear, I never knew you were this amazing! You could easily be a head chef in a big restaurant! Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu are really blessed—they make me want to move in too!" Feng Xiaoxiao said enviously, her mouth watering as she stared at the delicacies on the table.
Feng Xiaoxiao's own cooking was actually quite decent, for she had grown up spending much of her time alone and was long used to fixing her own meals. But when you cook only for yourself, you make do with whatever is simple; the dishes she prepared were nothing more than the usual everyday fare.
As for Tang Zhi, although she often cooked at home as well, her family circumstances meant that potatoes and cabbage were what she ate most of the time. Faced with so many fresh ingredients now, she did not quite know where to begin.
"Heh, then move in. I'll talk to Yaoyao about it." Wei Zhao smiled and readily agreed. What he was thinking was that Feng Xiaoxiao's illness could flare up again at any unknowable moment. Today, luckily, Feng Tianlong had discovered her in time. But what if Feng Tianlong had not been around? Suppose he went off on a mission and did not contact Feng Xiaoxiao for days—wouldn't she then be as good as dead?
So Wei Zhao thought Feng Xiaoxiao's suggestion was quite good. Besides, the Young Miss and Xiaoshu were both reasonable people; they would certainly support his decision.
"Never mind. It wouldn't feel right. I was just saying..." Feng Xiaoxiao shook her head in refusal even though Wei Zhao had agreed.
"Fine. Anyway, come whenever you want; the door is always open for you." Wei Zhao knew perfectly well that Feng Xiaoxiao's relationship with the Young Miss and Xiaoshu had never been as close as her relationship with Tang Zhi. And the situation now was obvious: Tang Zhi and Feng Xiaoxiao were on one side, Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu on the other. Though there was a temporary truce, Feng Xiaoxiao, facing Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu alone, could not help feeling outnumbered.
"Oh, right, Wei Zhao—why don't you call Yaoyao and Xiaoshu? When they saw you hadn't come back tonight, they called me earlier. I told them what was going on here, and they are very worried about you. They said that no matter how late it was, once you woke up, you should call to let them know you're safe." Tang Zhi suddenly remembered their earlier phone call and said.
"Okay." Wei Zhao nodded, took out his phone, and dialed Gu Mengyao's number.
