Chapter 1196 — A Big Deal

The Blossom Guardian · Page 1 of 2

"That... we can talk about later." Wei Zhao was a little embarrassed by Shen Yushu's request. "Go get your medicine first!"

Gu Mengyao had wanted to ask whether there was a prescription for enlarging the breasts, but the words would not come out; no matter how she turned it over in her mind, it was simply too embarrassing... Still, she could always send the thick-skinned Shen Yushu to ask — that girl could say anything at all. Yes, it's settled!

With that decided, Gu Mengyao took Shen Yushu by the hand and led her off to get the medicine, turning over in her mind how she would raise the matter with her...

"So she's all right now? Thank you so much!" Yu Xiaoke, seeing that Wei Zhao truly knew his medicine, was beside herself with excitement. She seized his hand and shook it back and forth. "From now on, if any of the children at the orphanage falls ill, can I come to you?"

"..." Wei Zhao was somewhat speechless. "I was only dealing with an emergency. In future, if anything comes up, go to the hospital first; come to me only for what the hospital can't handle."

Wei Zhao had no wish to set such a precedent. If he had to treat every fever and cold among the orphanage's children himself, he would have no time for anything else.

"I see... all right then..." Yu Xiaoke was a little disappointed, yet she knew that she and Wei Zhao were barely more than passing acquaintances, and there was no way she could compel him. Still, the fact that Wei Zhao had promised to see any illness the hospital could not cure made her happy! Often enough, newborns were abandoned by their parents because of one congenital defect or another, and many of these conditions were incurable — or, even where treatment was possible, it cost a small fortune, with no guarantee of success.

The orphanage had taken in a great many such infants — and that was precisely why Yu Xiaoke, after so many years of thieving, had never managed to put away a penny of fortune! Beyond the orphanage's running expenses, part of the money went to treating the babies. Even when she knew she was simply throwing money into a hole, Yu Xiaoke would not give up on a child's treatment so long as there was even a sliver of hope. They were pitiful and innocent, she thought; however bitter and exhausted she was, she would spend the money to heal them.

Wei Zhao's words had plainly brought Yu Xiaoke hope, and at the thought of this she was no longer downcast. Instead she said, a little happily, "Then we have a deal?"

"Agreed." Wei Zhao nodded and changed the subject. "If you're not stealing money anymore, how does the orphanage get by?"

"We muddle through one day at a time!" Yu Xiaoke shrugged. "I posted a commission on the Thieves' Guild — the moment someone spots it and comes to me for a big job, that ought to feed us for a year or so."

"The Thieves' Guild? A big job?" Wei Zhao frowned. He had heard something of the Thieves' Guild, and so he said, "With your third-rate skills you're going to take on a big job? Don't go and lose your life over it."

"I'll be careful!" Yu Xiaoke sniffed. "What do you mean, third-rate? My lightness skill ranks among the best in the whole Thieves' Guild! Our Flying Swallow Sect is famous there!"

Wei Zhao nodded and said nothing more. He could help her for a while, but not for a lifetime; in the end the burden would have to be shouldered by herself.

Er Gou Dan had by now grasped the truth of the matter and naturally knew that Yu Xiaoke had never meant to cheat him of his money. Feeling a little ashamed, he scratched his head and said, "Yu Xiaoke, I was the one who wrongly suspected you. You're no female swindler!"

"Hehe!" Seeing how open-handed Er Gou Dan was, Yu Xiaoke no longer cared much about what had happened before. "Don't worry — once I strike it rich this time, I'll definitely pay you back!"
