At that moment Gu Mengyao, Shen Yushu, and Wei Zhao had just gotten back to the villa, having just seen Tang Zhi and Feng Xiaoxiao home. None of the three had locked the villa door yet; the neighborhood was safe, and nothing went missing even in broad daylight.
So Gou Huli had walked into the courtyard with perfect ease.
"Little lion, give me a couple of roars right here!" Gou Huli ordered her lion.
"Roar—" The lion had been professionally trained, so whatever Gou Huli said, it more or less understood.
Shen Yushu and Gu Mengyao were sitting in the living room looking through the photos from this outing on an iPad 2, thrilled to bits.
"Wow, this picture of Arrow Bro grilling shrimp is so handsome, so handsome!" Shen Yushu shrieked, holding the iPad 2 up high.
"..." Gu Mengyao rolled her eyes. "Xiaoshu, you've screamed that a dozen times today... my ears are going to grow calluses!"
"But he really is handsome! Sister Yaoyao, don't you think so too?" Shen Yushu said.
"Not really." Gu Mengyao said flatly. "I'm not Tang Zhi or Feng Xiaoxiao. Why should I care so much about Wei Zhao?"
"Oh." Seeing how cool Gu Mengyao was, Shen Yushu said no more and went back to the photos.
But before she had gotten through more than a few, the sound of a lion's roar rose from the villa's entrance. Shen Yushu had paid the first few no mind, but as the roaring went on and on, she raised her head in puzzlement and stopped what she was doing. "Sister Yaoyao, did you hear that strange noise?"
"What noise?" Gu Mengyao hadn't noticed; her attention wasn't on that at all... Earlier Xiaoshu had gone on and on about how handsome Wei Zhao was, and when Gu Mengyao took a closer look, she found it was true. Wei Zhao was not one of those pretty-boy types, but the kind of young man who was masculine and carried himself with real presence, and that happened to suit Gu Mengyao's taste exactly. She had no liking for boys who were too pretty, and yet a boy who was only brawn and no brains would not do either... In short, Gu Mengyao's standards for a partner were very complicated, and Wei Zhao happened to satisfy every one of them...
So Gu Mengyao was all tangled up inside, and before she had come back to her senses, naturally she had not heard any strange sounds from the villa's courtyard.
"That woo-ow, woo-ow kind of sound!" Shen Yushu imitated the lion with a couple of cries.
"Huh?" Gu Mengyao blinked. "What kind of a cry is that?"
"Just that one, Sister Yaoyao, listen carefully!" Shen Yushu pointed toward the outside of the villa.
"Hm? There does seem to be a strange sound." Gu Mengyao listened carefully to the stirrings in the courtyard, and sure enough, there was the very sound Shen Yushu had just imitated. And truth be told, it really did sound quite a lot like Shen Yushu's imitation!
"Wait for me, Sister Yaoyao, I'll go out and take a look!" With that, Shen Yushu called toward Wei Zhao's room, "Arrow Bro, come out and protect me!"
"Wei Zhao is taking a shower..." Gu Mengyao said.
Earlier, when Wei Zhao had gone back to his room, he had said he wanted to wash up first. Now that Shen Yushu was calling him, of course he could not come out.
And so Shen Yushu, leading General Mighty along, marched out the door with her chest puffed out to inspect the situation. The moment she stepped outside, she saw Gou Huli standing in the courtyard playing with her lion!
"Damn! What are you doing, you old hag?" Shen Yushu's eyes went wide as she stared at Gou Huli in disbelief. "Are you performing a circus here?"
"Gah? You little punk!" Gou Huli was caught off guard. She had never imagined that bringing a lion here to throw her weight around would be taken by Shen Yushu for the act of a circus clown, and she flew into a rage. "Who's the old hag cursing?"
