"Very well, Tianli. Just mind yourself - do not offend Wei Zhao, and that will be enough!" Liu Zhenhu settled the matter once and for all. "Jingjing staying out of sight now may yet prove of great use later."
Liu Jinghan's cheeks flushed faintly; her grandfather's words told her he had seen straight through her heart. She had, after all, meant to approach Wei Zhao under another identity, for she was curious about the man and wanted to meet him privately and see what sort of person he really was.
Liu Jinghan could not work it out: how had this man lived until now? He had offended all three of the hidden clans - the Yu, the Zhao and the Pi - and yet here was Wei Zhao, alive and kicking, without a scratch on him!
He was the first man who had ever made Liu Jinghan curious. She was a clever girl and ordinarily never gave anyone a second thought, but Wei Zhao had genuinely piqued her interest. Of course, such interest did not mean she liked him - with Wei Zhao, Liu Jinghan was merely curious.
Liu Tianli had not understood his father's meaning; he had taken it for a ploy to keep their daughter in reserve as a trump card, to be played at the crucial hour. Liu Tianyi, though, was lost in thought. He looked at his niece - she had bloomed into a slender, graceful beauty, and would count as first-rate even among the great families...
Yet for all that Liu Tianyi had divined something of the matter, he ultimately said nothing. Certain things the old master would naturally orchestrate in his own good time; there was no need for him to speak out of turn.
The old master and Liu Jinghan, at times, saw more clearly than Liu Tianyi himself.
Wei Zhao hung up on Liu Tianyi and was about to call Fatty Lai to tell him the news when he turned around and saw Tang Zhi come down the stairs wrapped in nothing but a towel!
"Yaoyao, where are my clothes?" Tang Zhi had finished her bath upstairs only to find that neither Gu Mengyao nor Shen Yushu was there. Gu Mengyao had not laid anything out for her to change into, and Tang Zhi could hardly go rifling through Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu's wardrobes, so she came downstairs. She had assumed Wei Zhao was outside moving things and that the villa was full of girls, so a towel would hardly matter - never dreaming that Wei Zhao was here too!
Tang Zhi stood on the stairs with nothing on beneath the towel, so from Wei Zhao's vantage point below, the pale bloom of her most intimate self was laid bare. His breath came short before he could check it.
The most intimate he and Tang Zhi had ever been was holding hands and pecking each other's cheeks; and now, catching sight of Tang Zhi with not a stitch on, Wei Zhao's heart began to pound.
"Ah!" Coming down the stairs, Tang Zhi spotted Wei Zhao as well. His expression was decidedly strange; she followed his gaze down to herself, and her face went scarlet. Panic seized her - she cried out, spun around and made for the stairs, but in her haste she stepped on her own towel and kicked it clean off, leaving Tang Zhi standing there in nothing at all.
"Whoa, Sister Tang Zhi is really something! Don't tell me she wants a five-way with us?" Shen Yushu's eyes went round, staring at Tang Zhi's bare chest and then down at herself. "Hmm, still not as big as mine! But she's overtaken Sister Yaoyao!"
It had been embarrassing enough already; Shen Yushu's words made Tang Zhi want to die of shame. She bent to pick up the towel - but the moment she folded forward, she froze. Bending over like this with her back to Wei Zhao, wouldn't her bottom be pointing straight at him? Wouldn't that leave him seeing everything?
At the thought Tang Zhi blushed past all bearing, and her hand stilled above the towel. She wanted nothing so much as to bolt upstairs, anything to spare herself further mortification.
But the harder she tried to run, the more her panic undid her. Her foot came down on the towel again, her body lurched, and she went sliding down the staircase.
