Chapter 1023 — Who's Afraid of Who?

The Blossom Guardian · Page 1 of 2

"You're the dummy!" Feng Xiaoxiao sniffed. "Fine, I'll go — who's afraid of who?"

Yesterday Feng Xiaoxiao and Shen Yushu had failed to settle which of them was the better; now that an opportunity had come around today, Feng Xiaoxiao naturally would not let it slip by. Of course she had no idea that this was Shen Yushu taking the initiative to approach her. Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu had already talked it over, and agreed to let Wei Zhao date Feng Xiaoxiao during the final stage of her life.

But if things went on as they had yesterday, conflict was bound to break out; and if the shift came too suddenly, Feng Xiaoxiao would certainly grow suspicious. So Gu Mengyao told Shen Yushu to find some way to draw closer to Feng Xiaoxiao — at the very least, their future meetings would not be so abrupt.

"Wei Zhao, hold my phone for me — keep it safe." Feng Xiaoxiao took the phone from her pocket, handed it over, and said.

Phones were not allowed in the gymnasium. Partly because carrying one got in the way of training, and partly because someone with ill intentions might bring a phone in and snap pictures at random, catching classmates in compromising shots — that would be a real problem!

So an electronic-device detector stood at the gym entrance. In time, nobody brought a phone along any more; even leaving it in the box by the door left you uneasy, afraid someone might swipe it in passing.

"Sure." Wei Zhao nodded, took Feng Xiaoxiao's phone, and watched her leave the classroom together with Shen Yushu.

A smile grazed the corner of Wei Zhao's lips. It looked as though Shen Yushu had already made her move. Knowing Xiao Shu's methods, he reckoned the two little terrors would be thick as thieves before long.

Wei Zhao's guess was not wrong: Shen Yushu was indeed making her move. Her plan was to first establish herself as Feng Xiaoxiao's rival, then occasionally team up with her to pull pranks on others; their relationship was bound to warm steadily all the way.

Wei Zhao's own phone had been smashed by Ma Zhu, so he was using a cast-off of the Eldest Miss's — a phone much like the flip phone Xiao Shu had used to have, only with fewer functions, a non-smart operating system, and no games worth playing.

The girls had PE this period, which for the boys amounted to a self-study period: you could sit and read in the classroom, and if you felt like going out to the playground, nobody would stop you. But third-year senior students had some discipline of their own — with the national college entrance exam right around the corner, who would go off playing? And even if you did, whom would you play with? Play by yourself?

Wei Zhao might listen carefully to his teachers in class, but he never opened a book to review afterwards.

Once Feng Xiaoxiao had gone, Wei Zhao picked up her phone more or less at random, brought up Plants vs. Zombies, and began playing it out of sheer boredom.

"Boss, you and Feng Xiaoxiao — you two are together?" Kang Xiaofeng waited until every girl in the classroom had filed out before turning around and asking, eyes darting furtively.

"'Together'? Must you put it so crudely?" Wei Zhao smiled wryly.

"Heh heh — I was sitting up front and heard you two whispering away all through the class. Didn't it sound like Feng Xiaoxiao was even asking you to feel her up?" Kang Xiaofeng said with a sly grin.

"..." Black lines streaked across Wei Zhao's forehead. Kang Xiaofeng had heard all of that? All he could do was answer, speechless: "I didn't touch her just now. You know what she's like — there's nothing she won't say."

"Oh, oh!" Kang Xiaofeng nodded. "I know you didn't. But you two are moving fast, aren't you? And at noon today I saw her coming in with Tang Zhi."

"Mm." Wei Zhao nodded.
