Chapter 1021 — A Startled Jump

The Blossom Guardian · Page 1 of 2

But Wei Zhao merely gave it a glance before turning and walking toward the school. What car Xie Yufeng drove was no great concern of his; so long as the fellow did not provoke him, he could do as he pleased.

By the time Wei Zhao arrived at school, it was already nearly time for the first class of the afternoon. He went straight into the classroom and walked directly to his desk and sat down.

Before long the teacher came in as well, and the afternoon's lessons began.

Feng Xiaoxiao was stricken with disappointment. When Wei Zhao came in, he had not so much as given her an extra look. Had he not noticed that she was different from usual? Even that idiot Xie Yufeng had noticed!

She waited a while, and still Wei Zhao did not glance her way; instead he took out his textbook and listened earnestly to the teacher. Feng Xiaoxiao was instantly overcome with gloom.

"Ahem, ahem..." At last Feng Xiaoxiao could hold back no longer. She coughed twice, hoping to draw Wei Zhao's attention.

"What's wrong? Have you caught a cold?" Hearing her cough, Wei Zhao asked at once — though he asked without so much as lifting his head to look.

"No..." Feng Xiaoxiao was even more dismayed. She could only say, "Hey, Wei Zhao, talk to me for a bit?"

"Talk about what? Aren't you listening to the lesson?" Wei Zhao asked.

"You skip class all the time — what lesson are you listening to? Just keep me company!" Feng Xiaoxiao was growing a little frantic.

"Then go ahead. I'm listening," Wei Zhao said with a nod.

"You... you... you..." Feng Xiaoxiao was fit to die of rage. Having said "you" three times, she finally could not contain herself and erupted: "Can't you just turn your head and look at me?"

"Look at you? What for?" Wei Zhao countered.

"Just tell me whether you dare to look!" Feng Xiaoxiao said anxiously.

"Heh..." Wei Zhao's powers of observation were keen indeed. In truth, he had seen Feng Xiaoxiao the moment he entered the classroom, and been struck by how stunning she looked. The first time he met her, she had worn heavy makeup, like some scene kid.

At school she usually appeared bare-faced, yet today she had put on light makeup, styled her hair with care, and even coordinated her clothes thoughtfully; the simple little accessories made her seem all the more delicate and striking.

But Wei Zhao, meaning to tease her, had simply never said so.

Sure enough, the little miss could not wait.

"What are you laughing at?" Feng Xiaoxiao shot back. "Do you dare to look or don't you?"

"I don't dare..." Wei Zhao shook his head.

"Huh?" Feng Xiaoxiao was stunned — she had not expected Wei Zhao to say he didn't dare. After the shock came a fit of teeth-gnashing: "Wei Zhao... you... you... why don't you dare?"

"Because you're too beautiful today. When I came in just now, one look was enough to set my heart racing. I'm afraid that if I look too long, I'll assault you right here in the classroom," Wei Zhao said.

"Ah?" Feng Xiaoxiao's mouth fell open in astonishment at his words, and then her face broke into a radiant smile, blooming with delight. So Wei Zhao really had seen how she looked! She could not have been happier. And in her joy she began to speak without thinking: "It's fine, look some more — I'm not afraid of being assaulted!"

"Ahem, ahem..." This time it was Wei Zhao's turn to cough.

"Wei Zhao, what's wrong? Have you caught a cold?" Seeing him cough, Feng Xiaoxiao rolled her eyes and asked with a smile. She knew perfectly well that her words had startled him, but giving Wei Zhao a fright was a thoroughly amusing thing to do.

"No, nothing..." Wei Zhao said with a bitter smile. "Xiaoxiao, you really do look beautiful today."

"Hehe, good thing I didn't get up early for nothing! When I didn't see you this morning, I nearly exploded with anger—in a fit of pique I went to the restroom, washed off all my makeup, and messed up my hair!" Feng Xiaoxiao laughed.
