"Phew..." After washing her face, Feng Xiaoxiao let out a breath of relief. Looking at her pretty face in the mirror, she clenched her fist and said to herself, "Xiaoxiao, you're the best. Come on, come on! Wei Zhao is starting to like you..."
But once she had finished cheering herself on, Feng Xiaoxiao sank back into that strange mood. Was this what it felt like to be in love? Had she... really fallen for Wei Zhao? Hmm... that did not matter. She was going to die anyway; she was only getting a taste of what love was like. The more she gave herself over to it, the better it would surely feel!
Thinking this way, Feng Xiaoxiao decided not to deliberately hold her feelings in check.
After leaving the bathroom, Feng Xiaoxiao sent Wei Zhao a text message: "Darling, I'm home."
By the time Feng Xiaoxiao's message arrived, Wei Zhao was nearly home himself. He had been a little worried that she had not texted him for so long, and now his mind was set at ease.
Wei Zhao casually texted Feng Xiaoxiao back: "I'm almost there too."
Not long after Wei Zhao sent his reply, the phone rang. He assumed it was Feng Xiaoxiao calling, and since he was driving he did not bother to check the caller ID, picking up directly: "Xiaoxiao, what is it?"
"Xiaoxiao — you call her that so sweetly. I'm not Xiaoxiao, I'm Yunyun!" Tang Zhi's voice sounded as though she were angry, but when she said the word "Yunyun" she could not help laughing at herself. "Calling myself Yunyun — how awkward..."
"Heh, I had just gotten Xiaoxiao's text and then your call came in, so I thought it was her." Wei Zhao knew Tang Zhi would not be jealous; she was a girl of exceedingly kind heart. Now that she knew of Feng Xiaoxiao's wretched circumstances, all that remained in her was sympathy and pity — otherwise, at Feng Tianlong's place today, she would never have agreed of her own accord to his request.
"I just wanted to ask — are you home yet? I was a little worried, that's all..." Tang Zhi was not worried about Wei Zhao driving alone so late at night; she was worried about those factions that had made trouble for Wei Zhao before! Though Wei Zhao had dealt them a lesson, who could say whether they had truly given up? Whether they might seize some chance for revenge?
"I'll be home any minute," Wei Zhao said. "By the way, with Xiaoxiao there earlier, I never got the chance to ask you — what exactly did you and Xiaoxiao say to each other? What agreement did you reach? How is it that she acts as though becoming a concubine were some great windfall?"
"Heh!" Tang Zhi could not help laughing at Wei Zhao's question. "I knew you'd be curious! But it really was rather amusing, come to think of it! It happened like this — you had gone to buy food, and Xiaoxiao and I, while waiting for you, fell to talking about that whole 'other woman' business from before..."
