In that instant, Chen Xi understood: this big brother before her, who had helped her, must be a miracle doctor! If he could name her mother's illness, then could he save her mother?
"You can save my mother, can't you? If you can name her illness, then you must have a way!" Past caring about propriety between man and woman, Chen Xi came over and seized Wei Zhao's hand, speaking in urgent haste: "I beg you, save my mother. Whatever the cost, I will pay it!"
Wei Zhao's heart gave a small tremor. In the past, he had faced partings and reunions, joys and sorrows, without ever being moved. Had he changed now?
Chen Xi's words left the waiter somewhat dumbstruck as well! He had not expected Wei Zhao to actually name the mother's illness correctly, and by the look of it, Wei Zhao really was a doctor! Then everything he had said before was true?
At that thought, the waiter felt a flush of shame. It was all his own hot temper, scolding Wei Zhao without so much as asking right from wrong!
"Wei Zhao, is there a way?" Feng Xiaoxiao knew all too well the pain of losing a mother. Looking at Chen Xi, she saw herself; so if there was a way, she would not let it go.
"If it had been caught just now, it would still be possible..." Wei Zhao hesitated a moment, then said, "But as things stand, it is rather troublesome..."
At the first half of Wei Zhao's words, Chen Xi's heart sank in disappointment! But the second half made her eyes light up at once! For Wei Zhao had said troublesome, not impossible! Troublesome meant that though it was difficult, there was still a way!
At that, Chen Xi dropped to her knees before Wei Zhao without thinking: "Brother miracle doctor, I beg you, save my mother. However much money it takes, I will give it to you!"
Feng Xiaoxiao had asked only on the off chance, never expecting Wei Zhao to give an affirmative answer! She knew Wei Zhao's character well: if he did not agree, he did not agree; but once he did, he would do everything in his power to see it through.
So Feng Xiaoxiao breathed a sigh of relief. If Wei Zhao said there was a way, then there was certainly a way!
At that thought, Feng Xiaoxiao's heart lightened, and she could not resist teasing Chen Xi: "If he saves your mother, how about you be his lover?"
"Huh?" Chen Xi was startled, and her pretty face flushed scarlet. She knew perfectly well what lover meant and what it required; it was little different from selling herself! When she had been in despair over money, she had considered selling herself to pay for her mother's treatment; but she was no fool, and she knew her mother's illness could not be cured. The doctors had been perfectly clear: no matter how much money was spent, all it could do was slow the approach of death. A cure was out of the question.
So Chen Xi understood: even if she sold herself to pay for her mother's treatment, it would only buy a little time. And if her mother learned what she had done and flew into a rage, it might well kill her outright; liver cancer was not something that tolerated anger, and then she would have lost far more than she gained.
But now Wei Zhao had given her hope. From his tone, Chen Xi could tell that he had a way! And the reason she believed it so firmly was that Wei Zhao had named her mother's condition the moment he opened his mouth; of all the doctors she had taken her mother to see, he was the only one who could state her mother's illness so swiftly!
So although Chen Xi felt Feng Xiaoxiao's request was a little excessive, she had no time now to think it over. On impulse, she nodded and said, "Fine. As long as you can really cure my mother's illness, then I... I will do anything!"
Chen Xi still could not bring herself to say the words be his lover; for a girl as pure as water, those words were simply too shameful to speak! But Chen Xi was not foolish either. Though she believed in Wei Zhao, she could not possibly let anything happen between them before he had cured her mother's illness!
