"Tang Zhi, don't listen to Little Shu's nonsense. That's just her personality—she jabbers on every day. Once you've spent more time with her, you'll understand." Seeing Tang Zhi's predicament, Gu Mengyao felt rather embarrassed herself. She had invited the woman to dinner to thank her, not to declare war! What the future held was hard to say, but today she absolutely had to be sincere.
"Heh, yeah," Tang Zhi said with a smile. Inwardly, though, she was thinking: how could there possibly be much contact between us from now on? The kind of luxurious life Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu led was far, far beyond her reach—her own family did not even have a place to live yet.
Tang Zhi got into the car. Wei Zhao climbed in after her, started the engine, and asked, "What do you want to eat? Where to?"
"Listen to me—I know a super-flashy Western restaurant!" Shen Yushu said.
Seeing that Gu Mengyao did not object either, Wei Zhao nodded and said, "All right."
"Turn left up ahead... then right... then get on the elevated expressway, take the middle on-ramp... then come off at the off-ramp on the right front... then..." Shen Yushu began to direct, more efficiently than a navigation system.
Following the route Shen Yushu laid out, Wei Zhao parked in front of a place called the "Super-Flashy Couples' Western Restaurant." Wei Zhao was somewhat speechless. The name of this restaurant was every bit as outrageous as that "Gelivable Floating Clouds Bar"—these two couldn't be a chain, could they?
Gu Mengyao looked at the enormous sign above the Western restaurant and was likewise at a loss for words. It really was super-flashy! Only—this was a couples' Western restaurant? Weren't couples the only ones who came to such a place? What did it mean for the four of them to come here? This combination really was a bit bizarre, wasn't it?
"Little Shu, this is a couples' Western restaurant? Maybe we should go somewhere else?" Seeing that everyone going in and out of the restaurant was a paired-off man and woman, Gu Mengyao frowned.
"We're already here, so let's not switch! I'm starving!" Shen Yushu shook her head and urged them on.
Gu Mengyao had no choice but to let Wei Zhao park the car properly and then get ready to step out.
The doorman parking cars at the entrance of the Western restaurant had assumed that a couple would be getting out of the Beetle, but to his surprise four people emerged, which struck him at once as rather odd: "Excuse me, are all of you here to dine?"
"Duh—if we weren't here to eat, why would we park the car here? There's nothing fun around here!" Shen Yushu thought the parking doorman was an absolute idiot, asking such idiotic questions.
"Oh... then please come in..." The doorman shook his head. Surely they weren't two couples? And one of them a pair of lesbians? he thought wickedly, ushering Wei Zhao and the others into the restaurant, where a waiter from the main hall came over to receive them.
"Good evening!" The lobby manager walked over and said politely.
"Get me a private room!" Shen Yushu studied the Western restaurant's decor with curiosity. She had seen an introduction to this restaurant online before, saying it was a paradise for lovers, and she had wanted to see it for herself—but she had no lover! She had heard that this place did not serve anyone who wasn't part of a couple, so she had had to give up on the idea. Today, though, she finally had her chance.
"One room?" The lobby manager was slightly taken aback. "The four of you, in one room?"
"That's right!" Shen Yushu nodded.
"I'm sorry, miss, but this is a couples' Western restaurant. We only have couples' private rooms and couples' booths, and we serve couples exclusively..." the lobby manager explained, assuming these were simply guests who had wandered in by mistake.
