Chapter 692 — The Female Thief Yu Xiaoke

The Blossom Guardian · Page 1 of 2

"Of course I'm surprised—you can get your hands on things from ancient texts, so how could I not be? And besides, how could anything mentioned in an ancient text be bad?" Old Man Wei rolled his eyes and retorted. "But even if it's a good thing, the text never said exactly how to use it. It only said its function is similar to a preservation box—whatever you put inside stays unchanged for ten thousand years. But surely that's not its only function; it's just that the knowledge has been lost."

"Well..." Wei Zhao rolled his eyes too. "Then you've told me nothing. I'll just figure it out myself!"

Wei Zhao hung up, at a loss for words. The old man's rambling had no reference value whatsoever, and it left Wei Zhao deeply frustrated. It was like getting a high-level magical artifact in an online game but having no idea how to use it—you just sat there delighted, unable to activate it.

Fortunately, reality was not an online game: no need to worry about inventory space, and you could stash any manner of "junk" wherever you liked.

Wei Zhao put the Everlasting Spring Wood Box and the two fragments of the map into the drawer. Since they were useless for now, he had no choice but to regard them as "junk."

After calling the old man, Wei Zhao called Tang Zhi.

"Hello?" Tang Zhi was waiting in the nurses' duty room for Xiaofen to return when the phone suddenly rang. She glanced at the caller ID and her heart leapt with joy. "Wei Zhao, where are you? Is anything wrong with Gu Mengyao?"

Somehow, Gu Mengyao was the first thing Tang Zhi asked about. Was she genuinely concerned about Gu Mengyao, or was she worried about whether Wei Zhao and Gu Mengyao were together right now? Tang Zhi herself could not have said.

"Hah, she's fine now..." Speaking of Gu Mengyao, Wei Zhao felt strange inside, unsure how to explain it to Tang Zhi. Although he had done it to save a life, that scene really had been awkward. "I'm at home. She's still at the hospital."

"Oh..." Tang Zhi breathed a sigh of relief. What she feared was Gu Mengyao resorting to some underhanded form of competition—for instance, using her illness to keep Wei Zhao at her side. She could just claim that while ill she needed protection and the like, and there was nothing Tang Zhi could do about it.

"Where are you?" Wei Zhao asked.

"I'm at the hospital. I came with Xiaofen for her follow-up checkup—Guan Xin brought her," Tang Zhi said.

"Should I come find you?" Wei Zhao could not tell whether Tang Zhi had mentioned Guan Xin deliberately or not. In any case, whenever Guan Xin came up, Wei Zhao found it awkward to respond.

"Mm, that works." Tang Zhi nodded. "My mom happens to be looking for you—she wants to discuss buying a house. We can't keep living in the hospital forever, can we? My dad's leg is almost healed; the doctor says he just needs to rest at home now."

"All right, I'll head over now." Wei Zhao had nothing else to do anyway. After hanging up, he turned and left the villa. Only at the gate did he remember that his car was parked on the snack street behind the school—he had ridden over in An Liwen's car at noon, and he had been taking taxis everywhere since.

Going back to the school to fetch the car would be pointless. Anyway, Tang Zhi now knew about his relationship with the eldest miss, so Wei Zhao simply drove Shen Yushu's yellow Beetle.

Wei Zhao had just parked in the lot of the First People's Hospital and stepped out of the car when a middle-aged beggar leaning on a crutch came hobbling toward him.

"Young man, have a heart, spare me some money!" The beggar launched into a torrent the moment he approached. "I hurt this leg working at a construction site—a beam fell on it—and that crooked contractor didn't give me a single cent. All I can do is beg to scrape together my medical fees! Have a heart, a hundred or two hundred, I won't complain about either..."
