Chapter 612 — Next Time I'll Definitely Knock

The Blossom Guardian · Page 1 of 2

"Heh, how would you know without looking?" Wei Zhao smiled. "This really isn't like you. The old you wouldn't have been so worried about gains and losses, would she?"

Wei Zhao was right. The Tang Zhi of the past would never have been so hesitant; she was a girl who dared to act and dared to take responsibility.

Tang Zhi shot Wei Zhao a glare but said nothing. In her heart, though, she thought: What difference did it make whether I was pretty before? Not being pretty actually spared me a lot of unnecessary trouble. But things are different now. If I'm not pretty anymore, would you still like me?

Still, under Wei Zhao's coaxing, Tang Zhi walked over to the mirror and, with a flutter of anxiety, looked at her reflection — and could not help but gasp!

The scar on her forehead was gone, leaving only a faint trace. Unless one looked closely — very closely — it was invisible.

"That's new skin that's grown in. It'll always be a little different from the old skin at first, but in a few days there won't be any difference at all," Wei Zhao explained.

"Is it really that miraculous?" Tang Zhi could hardly believe it. Her forehead had taken eight stitches, and though Wei Zhao had removed them in the end, it must have been a bloody mess. In a single day's time, it had returned to how it looked before the injury — was she dreaming?

"Nothing miraculous about it. Divine Physician Kang's wound medicine could achieve this effect long ago," Wei Zhao said, not thinking he had done anything particularly wondrous.

"Divine Physician Kang's wound medicine — how could my family ever afford that? I'd never used it before, so how would I know?" Tang Zhi was overjoyed beyond measure, hopping about the hospital room like a cheerful little bird — until her mother suddenly pushed the door open and walked in, giving her such a fright that she nearly fell.

Wei Zhao hurried to steady her, and Tang Zhi tumbled right into his arms.

Mother Tang had come to check on her daughter's condition, afraid she might be depressed and despondent. After all, she had never seen the effects of Wei Zhao's wound medicine with her own eyes, and she did not know whether Tang Zhi could recover.

But the moment she entered, she saw her daughter and Wei Zhao being "intimate," and Mother Tang could not help feeling a little awkward. She cleared her throat and said, "I'll just go out and take a stroll first."

"Mom!" Tang Zhi was mortified. She hastily struggled free of Wei Zhao's arms, not quite daring to look up at her mother, furious with herself. Of all the times to fall, why did it have to be the moment her mother pushed the door open? How humiliating! Her mother surely must think she was throwing herself at Wei Zhao, wasn't she?

"Heh, next time Mom will definitely knock first." Mother Tang thought to herself that her daughter had grown up, and it seemed she would have to be more careful from now on. She had never considered such things before; only now did it dawn on her that her daughter needed her privacy too.

Of course, this was all on the premise that Mother Tang liked Wei Zhao. With anyone else, she would not have been so agreeable — she would have been too busy sabotaging things to bother!

"Mom, what are you saying!" Tang Zhi protested coyly. "The wound on my forehead healed, and I was so happy I nearly fell. Wei Zhao just... just steadied me, that's all..."

Under her mother's dreadful knowing look, Tang Zhi felt a pang of guilt, so her words lacked conviction.

"I understand..." Mother Tang saw her daughter's expression and looked even more like she understood everything, and Tang Zhi knew the misunderstanding had only deepened.

"Auntie!" Wei Zhao, not the least bit flustered, nodded politely to Mother Tang in greeting. "How are Uncle Tang's injuries?"
