"No secrets? Only because you tricked me into telling you everything!" Gu Mengyao's ire rose at the mere mention. This best friend of hers might look silly, but she was in fact clever as could be — she often coaxed out Gu Mengyao's innermost thoughts, then volunteered nothing of her own.
"Heh heh, we're both going to die anyway, so it doesn't matter what we say now!" Shen Yushu gave a dry laugh. "Yaoyao, what do you think of Arrow-brand Bro?"
"Wei Zhao? What — do you like him?" Gu Mengyao countered.
"Oh, Yaoyao, we're about to die and you're still like this — what's the point? I know you like Arrow-brand Bro too, don't you?" Shen Yushu blinked — then remembered Gu Mengyao could not see her, and her expression was wasted.
"Too? You like him too?" Gu Mengyao pounced on the slip of the tongue.
"If you like him, then I have to like him too, don't I? Anyway, it's my fate in this life to be the lesser wife!" Shen Yushu said, as though it were the most natural thing in the world.
"I don't even know whether I like him or not..." Gu Mengyao sighed. It was the first time she had seriously discussed Wei Zhao with Shen Yushu. "Because I don't know what it means to like someone..."
"Oh, I don't know either. I just think Brother Jianpai is pretty great — not as boring as other boys!" Shen Yushu pressed on, coaxing Gu Mengyao to keep talking.
"Mm, anyway, sometimes I find him really annoying, and other times I worry about him a little..." Gu Mengyao trailed off here, unsure whether she was speaking to Shen Yushu or just thinking aloud. "That thing is truly hateful. He clearly has two beauties right there in his own home, yet he still has to go looking for Tang Zhi!"
"Hehe, Yaoyao, so you're jealous?" Shen Yushu asked.
"I don't know. Whenever I see him together with Tang Zhi, I just feel uncomfortable..." Gu Mengyao shook her head.
"Oh, so do you like him?" Shen Yushu asked.
"Like him or not, it doesn't matter anymore. I'm going to die anyway, so I'm just talking nonsense." Gu Mengyao smiled mockingly at herself. "Xiaoshu, tell me — am I really that hard to get close to?"
