"Changyi, what's saved? What miracle drug did you find?" Lai Changtian frowned. "You didn't run into some charlatan on the road who sold you a strength pill, did you?"
"It's not a strength pill, and it's not a charlatan!" Fat Lai shook his head. "It's the real thing! Brother, hurry and pour some warm water, I'll give it to Dad!"
"Nonsense! What if you kill him? Bringing any old thing in here?" Lai Changtian snorted coldly and reached out to snatch what Lai Changshan was holding.
The doctor, seeing that this was a quarrel between the two brothers, had no intention of getting involved and turned to leave. But Lai Changtian seemed to have no intention of letting him go; he pointed at him and said, "The doctor is right here. Ask him—can those Jianghu strength pills just be taken at will?"
"This..." The doctor broke into a sweat, finding it rather hard to answer Lai Changtian's question. How could one speak carelessly of such a thing? Jianghu strength pills were certainly not to be eaten, but if this Fat Lai had somehow obtained a special remedy from some famous physician, who could say?
So this put him in a difficult spot. If he said it would not work, and the medicine later proved effective, would he not be held responsible? But if he said it would work, and it ended up killing someone, what then?
So the doctor hesitated for a long while before saying, "There is risk in everything. Miracle drugs aren't all swindlers—some of them do work..."
This kind of ambiguous, offend-no-one talk irritated Lai Changtian. Damn it, that red envelope was wasted on this old fellow!
"All right, get out. There's nothing for you here!" Lai Changtian waved his hand and shooed the doctor out.
The doctor felt as though he had been granted a great pardon and hurried out of the ward. A war between two brothers was best left alone.
"What's your game, bringing this so-called elixir here? Do you want Dad to die the moment he takes it?" Lai Changtian glared, sneering. "Don't think I don't know what you're plotting. You just want Dad dead quickly so you can fight me for control of the industrial park, isn't that it? Let me tell you, that's impossible! I've poured my heart and soul into that park. I'm five years older than you—I've slaved away in that industrial park for twenty years, since I was twenty! I won't hand it over! Let me tell you, don't even dream of it. Even if Dad wakes up, the most he'll give you is thirty percent of the shares. Real estate and trade are yours—you'd best stay out of the industrial park's affairs!"
"I want Dad dead? Hah, don't force me to say certain things! I heard your conversation with the doctor loud and clear from the doorway. You just want Dad to wake up and write you a will, isn't that right?" Fat Lai sneered back. "Since you've torn off all pretense, don't blame me for being blunt. I'll say this plainly: I'm giving Dad this miracle drug purely because I want him to recover. As for your precious industrial park, I won't touch it. If Dad leaves no will, I don't want one! Just as you said—give me thirty percent of the shares, and I'll take the real estate and trading companies and split off!"
"Oh?" Lai Changtian was briefly taken aback, then a flicker of delight crossed his eyes. "Fine. Words are empty—let's put it in writing! Once I write it up and you sign it, you can feed Dad whatever you like. I won't interfere!"
"Done!" A cold gleam of sorrow flashed through Fat Lai's eyes. His own elder brother was truly heartless; he cared nothing for whether their father lived or died, his mind fixed solely on seizing control of the industrial park.
Lai Changtian already had the outline of the contract in his head, so he quickly drafted one. For a veteran of the business world like him, producing a rigorous contract on short notice was no great feat.
Likewise, Fat Lai was no fool. He read through the contract his brother had drawn up for him, found nothing wrong with it, and signed it directly.
