Chapter 260 — Shen Yushu Catches a Ghost, Part One

The Blossom Guardian · Page 1 of 2

Anyone who had survived in an environment like that—would they ever be afraid of ghosts?

"Woo..." An old woman with blood streaming from both eyes drifted past Gu Mengyao's face. Gu Mengyao jumped in fright and clutched tightly at Shen Yushu's hand, refusing to let go. In her heart she was already regretting this—had she known these things were so terrifying, she would never have come.

"Hee hee, Sister Yaoyao, it's all fake!" Shen Yushu reached out and swept her hand through the old woman's body—her hand passed right through it. "See? It's fake, isn't it? Just a three-dimensional projection!"

"Oh..." Only after Shen Yushu's demonstration did Gu Mengyao finally set her heart at ease.

But this was only the beginning. The deeper they went, the more frightening it became. Beyond the ghosts and monsters that might suddenly fly into their faces at any moment, there were also coffins that burst open without warning at their side, and corpses that came leaping out—making Gu Mengyao's heart lurch again and again.

"Swoosh..." A rotting corpse covered in pus abruptly sat upright and sprayed a jet of black blood from its mouth straight at Gu Mengyao...

"Ah—!" Gu Mengyao shrieked and instinctively shrank backward, only to bump into Wei Zhao. "You—what are you doing behind me?"

"Didn't you tell me to stay behind you?" Wei Zhao shrugged. "That one's fake too. It's really just a mist of light."

"Oh..." Gu Mengyao felt a little embarrassed. Earlier she really had made Wei Zhao stand behind her because she was afraid something might attack from the rear. But after Wei Zhao's explanation, she realized that the blood sword just now had been nothing but a light-and-shadow effect—it did not actually exist at all.

After several such frights, Gu Mengyao's courage gradually grew. It was all fake anyway—visible but untouchable. What was there to fear? Watching Shen Yushu constantly swinging both hands to grab at the ghosts flitting back and forth, Gu Mengyao loosened up as well, and like Shen Yushu she began punching and kicking at them—and rather enjoyed herself.

"Smack..." Gu Mengyao felt a tap on her shoulder and assumed it was Wei Zhao. "Wei Zhao, why are you patting me? Stop messing around, I'm having fun here..."

"Smack..." The hand patted her again. Gu Mengyao grew annoyed and turned her head. "Wei Zhao, you—ah—!"

Gu Mengyao let out a scream, because she saw a "faceless man" patting her on the shoulder! Of course, a faceless man was not frightening in itself. What was frightening was that the faceless man's hand was not an illusion—it was solidly, genuinely patting her body!

"Sister Yaoyao, what's wrong?" Shen Yushu had been happily beating up ghosts when she suddenly heard Gu Mengyao's scream. She whipped her head around and saw a faceless man patting Gu Mengyao on the shoulder.

"Huh?" Shen Yushu was puzzled. Weren't the things in here all illusions? Why did this faceless man seem different? She hurried to Gu Mengyao's side and reached out to grab the faceless man's facial skin. "Huh? It really can be touched! Did they add some physical props?"

"I am the faceless man, and I'm going to eat you both..." Xiaoma was rather vexed at being grabbed by Shen Yushu. He lowered his voice and growled a line. Brother Universe had only told him to play along with the act; he dared not act rashly and could only keep pretending to be a ghost.

Wei Zhao, however, watched Xiaoma with keen interest. From the shoes the faceless man wore, Wei Zhao had long since recognized him as Xiaoma, the man who had been following them all along—and he had already formed some judgment about their scheme.

These people's idea was truly absurd—they wanted to dress up as ghosts and frighten Gu Mengyao to death? What were they thinking? Did they not know there was a live wire like Shen Yushu at Gu Mengyao's side? Even if Gu Mengyao was timid, with Shen Yushu stirring things up, there was absolutely no chance she would be scared to death.
