Chapter 153 — May I Sit Here

The Blossom Guardian · Page 1 of 2

"Junjie, is anyone sitting here?" Wei Zhao was watching Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu out of the corner of his eye when someone suddenly walked over and stopped at his table.

Wei Zhao looked up. She was a woman of twenty-seven or twenty-eight, elegantly dressed, and though the bar was dim, he could still make out her fine figure and the perfect lines of her face. Here was a woman with real capital, more alluring, more arresting than the green Gu Mengyao, Shen Yushu, and Tang Zhi.

A sly shrewdness glinted in the woman's eyes; she was plainly a veteran of such places. Wei Zhao was not so foolish as to imagine this lovely older sister had taken a fancy to him.

"Not at the moment," Wei Zhao said, mildly shifting his gaze away from her, and looked at her no more.

Sun Jingyan was taken aback. She had not expected such coldness from Wei Zhao. She had chosen him only after careful deliberation. To her mind, Wei Zhao was one of the wolves come here to hunt, though his face was a little young and he did not look like a veteran, and so she was confident she could handle a man like this, confident that with her charms she could wind him around her finger and get him to do a few things for her with ease.

But never had she thought Wei Zhao would be so utterly indifferent to her, as though he did not even register her presence! That nettled Sun Jingyan. Did Wei Zhao only care for that green, girlish sort?

The hour was not yet late, and the bar was still sparse. The corner where Wei Zhao sat was somewhat removed from the central stage, the poorer sort of seat! Apart from the one table with Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu, there were no other customers on this side at all.

So naturally Sun Jingyan concluded that Wei Zhao's quarry was Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu.

Was she not a match for two green girls? Sun Jingyan's eye was sharp as could be; though Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu had changed their clothes, she had identified at a glance that they were young, most likely still in school.

"Won't you invite me to sit?" Sun Jingyan, swallowing her irritation, said to Wei Zhao with a smile.

"Ha," Wei Zhao said with a faint smile, "the bar isn't mine. If you want to sit, I can hardly drive you off, can I?"

"Junjie, you do talk amusingly." Sun Jingyan had hardly failed to catch the keep-your-distance tone in his words, yet she sat down across from Wei Zhao all the same. Time waited for no one; to find another man in this bar who looked as harmless as Wei Zhao would truly be hard. One never knew but that no sooner had she shaken off one trouble than another came knocking at her door. "Junjie, your mark is those two little beauties at that table, isn't it?"

As she spoke, Sun Jingyan pursed her lips toward Gu Mengyao and the others.

Wei Zhao glanced at Sun Jingyan and did not answer her question. "Whatever it is, say it. I don't like beating around the bush."

"Hm?" Sun Jingyan stared at Wei Zhao in some astonishment. She had not expected him to see that she had come here with a purpose, and not merely to sit for a while! Sun Jingyan frowned slightly. She sensed that this Wei Zhao was not so harmless as he appeared on the surface; this man, it seemed, was not so simple!

Then was she right to have chosen him?

"Junjie, how about doing me a favor?" Sun Jingyan was already seated here; there was no way out. Right or wrong, her choice of Wei Zhao could only be seen through, come what may.

"What's your name?" Wei Zhao asked, looking at Sun Jingyan.

"Me?" Sun Jingyan had not expected in the least that this Junjie across from her would refuse to play by any rules at all. His answers were forever beside the point, and then he would ask another question entirely.

"Sun Jingyan," Sun Jingyan said after a moment's hesitation, giving her name.
