Chapter 16 — Caught Red-Handed

The Blossom Guardian · Page 1 of 2

What Wei Zhao had not expected was that it was still the default password. The TV shows had spelled it out clearly enough; he had simply been too clever for his own good, trying one combination after another.

It was Wei Zhao's first time watching ** on such a large screen. Before, he had only ever watched on his own ten-inch laptop, where nothing could be made out clearly; this time he could see whatever he wanted, and in high definition besides.

In an instant Wei Zhao's blood was surging; he nearly rushed over to stand in front of the television.

"Yawn... I'm so sleepy... Yaoyao, you little fiend, you kept me up all night, and only now do you fall asleep—while I'm the one who can't sleep..." Shen Yushu's voice drifted down from the direction of the second floor, followed by the sound of slippers on the stairs.

Wei Zhao's hearing was sharp. Though Shen Yushu's voice was very soft, not a single word failed to fall into Wei Zhao's ears. He was instantly alarmed—if Shen Yushu caught him in the living room watching **, wouldn't that be the end of him?

At that moment Wei Zhao was standing right beside the television. It was too late to go back for the remote, so he could only reach out and shut off the power at the television itself. Then he took his place by the windowsill and made a great show of looking out the window.

Wei Zhao could not help cursing his luck. His very first day here, and he had already blundered into that business of the indirect kiss; if Shen Yushu caught him watching ** in the living room today, he would surely be shown the door.

True, Wei Zhao was hardly enthusiastic about being a young lady's study companion, but at least the pay was good, and every day he ate and drank well. Another job like this would not be easy to find.

The crux of the matter was that he would not be leaving of his own accord—he would be driven out by the young lady, and over a thing like this. If Old Man Wei ever got wind of it, Wei Zhao reckoned he would never be able to hold his head up again as long as he lived.

Wei Zhao sighed, rather blaming himself for his itchy fingers. What business did he have, trying the default password for no reason at all? Though on second thought, this was Gu Mengyao's fault too—honestly, could she not change her password?

"Ah—" Catching sight of a figure standing by the living-room windowsill, Shen Yushu jumped in fright and nearly shrieked. Luckily her reflexes were quick; remembering that Gu Mengyao had just fallen asleep, she hastily clapped a hand over her own mouth.

"It's so early—what are you doing standing there?" By now Shen Yushu could see clearly that the person standing there was Wei Zhao, the very culprit who had kept her up all night being run ragged by Gu Mengyao.

"I couldn't sleep, so I got up..." Wei Zhao said, his conscience guilty, his expression somewhat awkward.

"Oh." Shen Yushu gave it little thought. Frowning, she said, "From now on, when you wake up, stay in your room. You nearly frightened me to death just now. Yaoyao and I are used to things as they are; having an extra person around all of a sudden takes some getting used to."

"All right..." Wei Zhao thought to himself that he would be damned before he ever watched ** in the living room again; it was too bloody frightening. This Miss Chen kept no regular hours at all—he had nearly been caught red-handed.

Shen Yushu stretched and sat down on the sofa, one slender calf crossed over the other, thoroughly alluring. But Wei Zhao did not dare look too long; he had already been worked up by the ** he had just been watching, and below the waist he was still standing stiff. If Shen Yushu were to see that, he would die of embarrassment.

"Wei Zhao, I'm hungry. Go fix me something to eat," Shen Yushu said lazily, ordering him about.

"Me? Fix something to eat?" Wei Zhao was somewhat taken aback. Since when had he become the household servant, cooking included?
