Chapter 277 — Section 279: Sharing the Boss's Worries
Battle Will Across the Vast Sky · Page 2 of 5
Making the boss feel you were useful was the first duty of any subordinate.
Be anxious for the boss's anxieties, worry over the boss's worries, and only then would the funding stay ample!
How could she have overlooked a matter so crucial? Sai Lei secretly reproached herself.
"You want to use the energy house to help little Tangtang cultivate?" Sai Lei asked.
"Exactly." Seeing Sai Lei drawn into the water, Bing felt his heart settle. "But the boss thinks it's too expensive. At the price of tier-seven star stones, breaking through to tier seven would cost at least two hundred tier-seven stars. That comes to over a hundred million star coins."
"A hundred million star coins!" Sai Lei jumped. "No wonder the boss cursed you out. In his place I'd curse you too, curse you to death! Do you have any idea how many experiments and how many mechanism soul armors I'd have to make for a hundred million star coins?"
Bing spread his hands. "That's why I came to you, to see if you had any good ideas."
"Let me look." Without a word Sai Lei took the energy house design and began to study it, and was soon lost in it.
Bing pressed his case from the side: "Sai Lei, this is the moment to prove our worth! It was your soul-refining device last time that let the boss forge a silver martial soul. That's one of the reasons he's willing to invest so heavily in you! And once we can make something of the energy house, it will be an enormous help to his cultivation. I've got plenty of other things like the energy house. As long as we solve the boss's cultivation problem, then as for funding, the boss won't be stingy at all!"
"What were people in your day thinking? Why waste so much energy?" Sai Lei said without lifting her head.
Bing said helplessly, "Back then the energy density of the Southern Cross was high. Energy was the most ordinary thing in the world to us, like air. Who would think of going out of his way to save air?"
"All right! Stop bothering me! Come back in three days to pick it up! All of you, out!" Once Sai Lei entered her working state, her manner turned imperious.
Pipa was long used to it. She rose and walked out of Sai Lei's workshop.
"Ahem, Pipa." Bing called her back and put on a solemn air. "There's an important job I want to give you."
With that he told her of Tang Tang's victory and of the problems he himself faced. Poor Bing had only ever been an instructor at a recruit camp. In tactics he was flawless, but in strategy, please forgive an instructor...
Tang Tang had dumped the whole business on him, and he was at his wit's end; yet since he had been the one who pressed for it, he could hardly refuse.
Pipa tilted her head. "Uncle, what is it you want to achieve?"
"Well, I simply need to pick some gifted young people to fill my training camp." Bing was a little ashamed; failing to find qualified recruits for a training camp was hardly a thing to be proud of.
"What does the boss think?" Pipa had picked up their habit and called Tang Tang "boss" too.
"He doesn't care about any of it." Bing spread his hands. "His one thought is to reach the Southern Cross as soon as he can."
"Understood." Pipa nodded. "Then are these tribes supplying enough trainees?"
"Not enough." Bing shook his head firmly. "From the Fire Wolf tribe alone I picked only about twenty-odd. These tribes of theirs, each can offer only twenty or thirty people; if I can pick three or four hundred in all, that would be good."
"Do you mean to use these people for the long term, uncle, or as cannon fodder?" Pipa asked next.
Bing said quickly, "The long term, of course. Training a qualified mechanism martial artist costs a great deal."
