The next day.
Led by a cat, one man, one panda, one butterfly, one carrot, and one sword spirit left Ancient Capital University.
Their destination: the Undead Battlefield.
The Undead Battlefield was an extremely dangerous place, generally off-limits to all.
To enter, one had to obtain approval from the Beastmaster Association and other relevant authorities and secure a passage permit first.
Still, unless they were truly strapped for cash, most beastmasters would not bother coming to such a place.
After all, plague and curses ran rampant inside. Even if one wanted to grind monsters for money, this was hardly the optimal choice.
The soul crystals that the undead dropped were indeed hot sellers in the Ancient Capital, but one still needed the strength to pick them up.
At present, apart from the Beastmaster Corps' regular sweeps of the Undead Battlefield, few beastmaster teams in the Ancient Capital were willing to come here and harvest resources.
The Beastmaster Association, the Beastmaster Corps, and Ancient Capital University all had the authority to approve beastmasters' entry into the Undead Battlefield. There were also certain special departments that could bypass approval and enter directly—members of Bureau Eleven, for instance.
Naturally, Shi Tan had not entered under a Bureau Eleven identity, but with the Ancient Capital University teacher-student field training documents—procured by the Gem Cat.
...
The Ancient Capital Beastmaster Corps.
One of the persons in charge, Xu Kai, a top-tier master, was processing paperwork.
Just then, a report came up from a subordinate.
"Reporting to the commander—a beastmaster of special status just entered the Undead Battlefield. I felt it necessary to inform you."
Holding the phone, Xu Kai said, "Who?"
"Shi... Shi Jin!"
The person who had cleared Shi Jin's passage this time happened to be one of those who knew Shi Ying's secret.
They had been present when Shi Jin won General Mu Huiyin's recognition.
They were also among the soldiers who had signed contracts to keep the secret.
"Oh, Shi—" Xu Kai shot to his feet.
"He went in alone?"
Damn it. Shi Jin was a key protected asset, a prospect destined for legend. Going alone into such a dangerous place was out of the question.
To outsiders, Shi Jin's greatest strength lay in the Void Butterfly, in the discovery of the Green Worm Cocoon. But this small circle of people knew full well that his greatest potential lay in having won the recognition of General Mu Huiyin's heroic spirit!
Who was Mu Huiyin? A fearsome figure who could even repel a totem. An ordinary overlord was nothing before her.
"No—the Gem Cat, Ancient Capital University's guardian, went with him."
"Emm..."
The Gem Cat?
Xu Kai mulled it over. Then it was fine. That Gem Cat was older than his grandmother; back when his grandfather was still in the service, the cat had already been making regular trips to the Undead Battlefield to farm gold on the side. It knew the place better than the Beastmaster Corps itself.
Still, he had no idea whether Ancient Capital University knew about this. After a moment's thought, Xu Kai took it upon himself to notify Feng Jin.
...
The Undead Battlefield.
A psychically controlled blanket floated low in the air.
A big white cat lay atop it, utterly at ease.
It seemed to have a cleanliness obsession, refusing to set foot on the battlefield's ground.
Shi Jin followed behind—panda on his left shoulder, butterfly on his right, the ginseng baby in his pocket, the little sword spirit at his chest.
With every step he took, the ominous aura around him seemed to be pushed aside.
Plague and curses of this level required nothing extra from Shi Jue—even without the Flame Demon Coat, the little sword spirit's aura alone could isolate them. It was, after all, the bane of the undead, burning with the sunfire that the undead feared most.
