Chapter 108 — The Professional Assessment Begins

Among these, high-tier beasts naturally enjoy an advantage—their physical ceilings are innately higher than those of low-tier beasts, and there is no helping it.
It was perfectly normal for a high-tier beast to have high energy.
But that did not mean much.
So long as the energy gap between transcendent creatures was not too vast, it could still be made up for.
If a high-tier beast's skill proficiency was not high, then in truth it could not bring its energy advantage into full play.
Conversely, if a low-tier beast trained a skill or a combo skill to an extremely proficient degree and could unleash all its energy in an instant, it would not be weak by any means.
Although a beast's energy value reflected its strength to a degree, the key still lay in how the skills that gave that energy concrete form performed.
These three examiners were all senior beastmasters, so naturally they would not gawk like the examinees.
Come on—they were just a pack of quasi-professional examinees. What shape their beasts were in was well within their judgment even without testing. That was experience!
Meanwhile, Shi Jin watched quietly from within the crowd of examinees the whole time.
It seemed it would soon be his turn?
He wondered just how high Eleven's actual energy value would reach...
Its species tier was not high, and none of the examinees who had summoned mid-tier transcendent beasts had broken 700 in energy, but his own Eleven was clearly out of the ordinary...
Setting aside the boost to its physique from the Evolution Sacred Spring, the feedback to its body from the master-level species skill Hardening, plus the feedback from a pile of non-species skills, could all raise the energy ceiling...

"Exam number 1464, Shi Jin."
Just as Shi Jin was thinking, his name was called after all.
At that moment, the first examinee to break a thousand had only just appeared, and the surrounding examinees were still churning inside.
There was a feeling of flatness, of having the spotlight entirely stolen away.
Damn it, contracting a commander-tier creature at this stage—money really does whatever it wants.
Next, Shi Jin took the stage.
The male examiners were fine with it—they just glanced at Shi Jin in silence and lost interest.
Shi Jin, wearing a short-sleeved shirt printed with an iron-eating beast, was too ordinary. One look and you could tell he wasn't much to speak of.
"Don't tell me his beast is an iron-eating beast too?"
Otherwise, what normal guy would wear an iron-eating-beast short-sleeved shirt?
At this point, it was the female examinees who began silently appraising Shi Ying's looks.
"At last, a somewhat handsome examinee."
And so, under the gaze of the candidates around Field No. 10 and the three examiners, Shi Jin stepped onto the detection platform.
"Summon your beast," said the head examiner, Zhuang Ping, from below.
On the platform, Shi Jin nodded. In the end, he decided to summon Eleven.
A transcendent-level bug was too outrageous; better not to provoke everyone. Keep a low profile, a low profile.
"Eleven."
Shi Jin reached out through the beast space to Eleven, who had been waiting there a long while.
The next moment, a gray summoning array appeared on the ground before him.
Wreathed in countless motes of light, Eleven appeared on the field, standing a little over a meter tall.
A little iron-eating beast just over a meter in height, clearly not yet fully grown: its gaze was resolute, its plump body planted squarely on the field, its soft black-and-white fur drifting in the breeze—flawless, from a breeding standpoint.
"So it really is an iron-eating beast..."
Flawless as it was, though, the iron-eating beast's race matched the other candidates' predictions exactly.
Shi Ying's clothing had been too obvious a hint!
Next, next. An iron-eating beast of a mid-tier race—even at transcendent level, its energy value couldn't be high.
Around 550?
The candidates judged.
