Chapter 1321 — Focal Point
Blade of Dawn · Page 4 of 4
She dimly sensed a vast presence, a magic system impossible to ignore. That magic circulation, vast as a city, stimulated her keen nerves as a mage and made her eyes fly wide open as she looked at Duke Boyu sitting beside her—yet the latter merely broke into a smile and gave her a friendly look: "Ah, here it comes—Lady Wenna, perfect timing. Let me show you the main force of this reinforcement for the Ogure front: the Empire's most powerful sky fortress."
Wenna rose in bewilderment, clambered down from her chair, and hurried after Duke Boyu on her little short legs. They left the command post and came to an open space in the camp. The cold wind of a winter night blew in from afar, making Wenna shiver and her mind grow clearer—the next second, she looked toward the distant northeast, following her senses.
A faintly glowing city was slowly flying through the night sky toward Mosswood.
It was vast as a mountain, yet clearly not some "mountain" floating in the sky. It had a roughly hexagonal outline; beneath its steel-forged main body were dozens of huge glowing rings arranged in neat order, and the protruding structures supporting the anti-gravity engines were arrayed along the central axis of its underside, releasing a dim radiance in the night sky. Around that floating "steel landmass" were countless ferocious cannons, neatly arranged projectors, and small objects suspended beneath the support structures on either side—tiny things like birds clinging to a giant beast.
Wenna squinted into the night for a long while before she realized with a shock that those tiny objects hanging at the edge of the "steel landmass" were in fact dense swarms of dragon rider fighters.
Her mouth fell open. The colossal thing was still drawing closer; from the ground she could not make out the structures on its upper levels, but she could still see towering towers and walls standing upon its surface. Lights wandered across the beast's body, illuminating its own steel frame and the buildings on its back, and shining down upon the forests and plains below. The low, ceaseless hum came from within the beast's body.
The colossal thing was so awe-inspiring, so overwhelmingly present in the night sky, that it almost entirely captured Wenna Baizhi's gaze. It was a long while before she realized something else—
The thing was not flying through the air alone. Around it in the night sky floated more than a dozen anti-gravity platforms, far smaller than it yet still ten or even dozens of times larger than ordinary dragon riders.
Each of those platforms carried different things: modular buildings of steel, bizarre weapon systems, towering communication towers, and enormous factories and barracks.
On this cold winter night, the grey elf leader was deeply shaken.
At the same time, in the depth defense zone of central-eastern Ogure, acrid smoke and nauseating corruption once again spread among the mountains.
War drums thundered in unison; lightning and flame reveled wildly across the earth. The mountains would be plunged into a sea of fire—the foul monsters had returned in force.
The mutants that had once retreated had completed their rest and reorganization under the command of the commander behind them. Before the morning sun could shine once more upon the mountains of Ogure, these great enemies of civilization, pouring out from the wasteland, launched the largest offensive since the outbreak of this war.
The battle reports fed back from every front made the commanders behind these monsters realize where the greatest breakthrough point in the wasteland defense line lay. They were concentrating their vast superior forces on the western front, and the ancient mountains and forests of Ogure... were already, in their eyes, the most succulent feast of all.
