Chapter 1079 — Greetings

"Indeed. If word of the Great Stag Amorn's existence spread to the common folk of the Silver Empire, who knows what chaos might erupt," Amber thought for a moment, then sighed in agreement. "When they couldn't even find clues, they managed to conjure up several 'divine prototypes' in a row. Now that there are clues, I fear they'd produce a 'Ancestral God Restoration' within a year. There might even be those old ones still alive who, relying on their prestige, could whip up public sentiment and force the royal family to welcome back a true god... The Silver Empress might not be able to hold against that."
"That's exactly what I'm worried about," Gao Yan nodded. "After all, Berentia said that five centuries ago she once eradicated a secret cult that tried to summon a god—five centuries is a long time for humans, but for elves, it's merely 'a scant five hundred years.'"
Amber opened her mouth, about to say something more, but suddenly closed it again—she was looking toward a corner of the street, where the High Messenger Suyou was walking toward them.
"It seems you have finished your talk with our Empress," Suyou said, arriving before Gao Yang and giving a slight bow. She was of course very interested in what the two had discussed over the past half day, but she showed no curiosity or inclination to ask. "Shall I continue showing you the rest of the town?"
"No need. Go to Rebecca—she needs someone watching over her more than I do," Gao Dai said, his gaze turning toward a certain direction within the town. "As for me... I still have other friends to see. Don't worry, Su Jilin is among the guards as well. He makes a fine guide here too."
Suyou glanced at Gao Yang and Amber beside him. No doubt showed on her face. She simply took half a step back: "In that case, I shall take my leave first."
The High Messenger's figure receded into the distance, and the attendants and guards who had been standing by nearby received Amber's signal. Two magitech vehicles glided lightly and nimbly to Gao Yang's side. The door of one opened, and Su Jilin climbed out from the passenger seat, looking at Gao Yang with a smile: "Did the negotiations with Her Majesty go smoothly?"
"Not quite as expected, but as smooth as expected," Gao Yi nodded with a smile, then casually asked, "The Typhonians should have arrived by now, yes?"
"Yes. Word just came from the delegation quarters—a Typhon envoy bearing the Augustus royal seal has paid a visit. Luo Yan Augustus invites you to meet in Conference Room 7 of the Emerald Long Hall."
"Mm, this is something we arranged in advance," Gao Yang had anticipated this. He turned to look at Amber. "Get in. I'm afraid we won't have a moment's rest these next few days."
...
A breeze, precisely calibrated by magic, swept through the flowers and grasses of the southern realm, carrying a comfortable, pleasant fragrance. The pale light of dusk spilled slantwise into the courtyard, sweeping from a gap in the distant high wall all the way into the shrubs beside the path, leaving behind a track that seemed forged of light. Insects darted through that trajectory, their fleeting shadows trailing what seemed like scattered motes of luminous dust.
All of this made the small garden seem more tranquil than ever.
The tea on the table had gone cold once again, but Berentia did not have a maid replace it with fresh tea. She merely stirred the liquid—which showed a golden-red hue in the sunlight—absently with a teaspoon, and asked casually: "Which direction did they go?"
"Toward the Emerald Long Hall," the High Maid Ilene said with a bow. "Also, the Typhonians' carriage is parked on the open ground behind the Emerald Long Hall—they likely intend to hold a closed-door negotiation before the formal meeting."
"Is that so..." Berentia seemed somewhat distracted. "I wonder what they intend to discuss."
"Shall we send someone to find out?" Another High Maid bent forward and inquired cautiously.
