Chapter 947 — Talonde
Blade of Dawn · Page 1 of 4
The sudden turn of events left Gao Cen momentarily frozen on the spot.
The vast, vivid landscape had already stabilized in his field of view; the brief dizziness and daze had faded, and all his senses and faculties of thought had returned to normal. The seascape at dusk, the low-hanging sky in the distance, and the cloud layer overhead were all drifting slowly along with Metzen's flight. Suddenly the great dragon dropped a little lower, the sound of beating wings rising from both sides, and Gao Yang was jolted out of his astonishment.
He whipped his head around and saw Amber's amber-colored eyes glinting in the dimming light of near dusk. She was gazing excitedly at the distant sky and sea, her face alight with delight, as though she had never been through that harrowing upheaval at all.
Virodai, too, sat quietly not far away, looking as though she were resting with her eyes closed—as if that had been her posture from the very beginning and had never changed.
Gao Yang raised his gaze and looked into the distance along the line of Metzen's tail. He saw that magnificent, monumental wall of cloud—the barrier of the Eternal Storm had been flung behind the dragon. Though from this distance it still looked spectacular, it no longer carried that suffocating pressure it had when rushing head-on toward them. It was slowly receding from Gao Yang's view, and the many details on the surface of the cloud wall were gradually blurring in the dim light.
"Hey, what's wrong with you? Why'd you suddenly go quiet?" Amber's voice came suddenly from beside him, her tone full of puzzlement. "Still looking at that storm? Didn't we just fly out of there?"
Gao Yang looked into Amber's eyes, trying to find even the slightest trace of incongruity in her face, but he found nothing. Before the confusion on Amber's face could grow any more obvious, he withdrew his gaze and asked, as if casually, "We passed through the storm... seems it went smoothly?"
"Of course it went smoothly," Amber nodded. "It was pretty scary when we first charged in, but Metzen flew nice and steady. Once you get used to it, it's actually kind of fun..."
Gao Yang's brow furrowed little by little, and before he could press further, Virodai, who had been resting with her eyes closed nearby, suddenly opened them. "Is something wrong?"
"Do you remember the process of us passing through the storm?" Gao Yang looked at Virodai, and as he asked, he surreptitiously pinched his own thigh—though in a world full of all manner of extraordinary powers, pinching yourself doesn't necessarily prove whether you're dreaming or caught in an illusion, when the pain came, he still felt a little reassured.
Virodai seemed not to notice Gao Song's small gesture. She only gave the question serious thought and recollection, then nodded. "After we broke into the cloud wall, we flew through a dim cyclone full of electrified cloud masses. The environment outside was very harsh, but Metzen wasn't much affected. Amber seemed excited the whole way, and you kept carefully observing the various phenomena in the lightning and deep within the cyclone—nothing eventful happened the entire time. After that, Metzen skirted the central region near the eye of the storm and passed through the cloud wall on the other side, and we came out safely."
"That's all?" Gao Yang couldn't help confirming once more. Seeing Virodai's earnest expression, he thought for a moment and then asked, "Then after we crossed the central region of the storm, did I say or do anything else?"
"You kept observing the various phenomena in the cyclone, Amber kept saying a lot of nonsense, I was resting, and Metzen was flying carefully."
Virodai said this slowly, her face expressionless, then she looked into Gao Song's eyes and her tone turned serious. "So then—what exactly is the problem?"
