Chapter 831 — Into the Blue Sky

Blade of Dawn · Page 1 of 4

It really was a plain and straightforward name.

But so many things about Cecil were plain and straightforward—and behind that plainness lay either convenience and practicality, or tremendous power.

Maggie was beginning to like this distinctive "Cecil style."

"You can transform now," Rebecca said, retreating to a safe distance and grinning at Maggie. "Don't worry, this place is plenty spacious—I even reserved a spot outside the workshop for you to get in and out, and to take off from~"

Maggie nodded and closed her eyes slightly.

The power born of her bloodline began to course through her body; mana reshaped her flesh and blood and began to break down the boundary between matter and element. A curtain of flowing light enveloped the dragonkin's body, then swelled at incredible speed, expanding to a span of more than ten meters in the blink of an eye, and within the shimmering veil, enormous dragon wings flashed faintly in and out of sight.

When the light faded, Maggie stood before them all in her black dragon form.

Even having seen it more than once, Rebecca and her technical team still marveled at this incredible transformation. The power and mystery of dragons fascinated these technical workers to no end, and the white-robed researchers could not help crowding closer, once again sighing in unison at the power of "dragons"—

"How on earth does she transform like that?" "Is that enormous body structure filled with mana?" "Where the extra weight comes from is a mystery…" "And where do all her personal belongings go in human form…"

—Without question, the researchers' exclamations about the giant dragon had to be professional ones.

Maggie swayed her head from side to side, listening somewhat helplessly to the discussions around her—now that they had grown familiar with one another, these fellows no longer even bothered to lower their voices when debating such matters.

Recalling how, not long ago, she would have been embarrassed by such talk, even a little offended, she had long since realized after all this time that the people around Rebecca were simply overly focused researchers. They meant her no offense; they were merely lacking in social graces—which was why every last one of them was single.

May these over-curious fellows stay single forever.

Maggie muttered inwardly, then lowered her massive head, covered in hard keratin, toward Rebecca: "How do I put this thing on?"

"Stand on that platform over there—see those red-marked patches? Those are the positioning points for your limbs," Rebecca said, pointing into the distance. "Then just spread your wings. Leave the rest to us."

Maggie did as Rebecca instructed and stepped onto the platform. Once she was steady, she composed herself, then slowly spread those wings that had been crippled from birth by a genetic defect.

She suddenly felt a little nervous, her heart pounding in her chest, so loudly she could hear its beat in her ears.

The sound of chains and sliding rails moving rose together with her heartbeat, along with the clatter and scrape of metal. The arcanist technicians and mechanical scholars around her steadily manipulated the suspended machinery, and that pair of cold, imposing black steel wings drew closer bit by bit, until with a chill touch they came to rest against Maggie's own wings.

Mechanical scholars were already standing on the overhead beams suspended in midair; the moment the steel wings were in place, they immediately drove the beams forward and, with all manner of tools, began fitting and locking each buckle and fastener of that enormous rig into position, one after another.

The clang of metal and the rattle of chains rang out, gradually calming Maggie's mind. She suddenly felt like a knight about to ride onto the battlefield—these worthy technicians were arming a dragon with advanced machinery, and for the dragon, this was her new suit of armor.
