In the quiet afternoon room, black-haired Mary sat with her head bowed, immersed in a sea of advanced mathematics exercises.
As the last few numbers and symbols settled onto the paper, the young mage—devoted heart and soul to her studies—finally raised her head and glanced at her mentor, peacefully asleep in the easy chair.
Her mentor seemed to be sleeping very deeply.
For many years past, her mentor had rarely known such sound sleep. The unbearable neurological headaches and the hallucinations of hearing and sight had tormented the old mage's spirit, making him ever more irascible and short-tempered while robbing him of the right to sleep peacefully—and this had gone on for over a decade.
It was the boon of that "master" that had given her mentor a chance to improve, and indirectly saved every apprentice around him who had suffered such torment.
That "master" was terrifying. Even now, every time Mary entered that "Origin Space," she could not help feeling a certain nervous dread—yet at the same time, she inevitably felt gratitude toward that "master" as well.
Her mentor suddenly stirred, startling Mary out of her brief reverie.
She rose quickly and went to the easy chair: "Mentor, you're awake?"
Daniel slowly opened his eyes, and saw the familiar room, and the familiar apprentice.
The old mage gave a soft sigh: "This time... something truly major has happened."
