Chapter 316 — Tyr's Impressions of the Gods

Blade of Dawn · Page 1 of 3

A report from the Rune Research Institute was delivered into Gao Yang's hands. He read through it for a long while, then finally let out a faint breath, rose to his feet, opened the door leading to the terrace, and stepped outside.

The cold wind of deep winter struck him in the face, but the chill air of the season could not plunge Cecil Territory into silence. Beneath the brilliant post-snow sunlight, the people of Cecil went to and fro through the streets and alleys, hurrying to their posts or making their way to the administrative hall in search of new work.

"So they've achieved a degree of signal transmission within the mana field's coverage..." Gazing at the still-thriving territory in winter, what occupied Gao Yang's mind was the content of the report. "Within a mana field, oscillating mana of a specific frequency can accomplish wireless transmission, and the 'black box' portion of communication spells seems to serve only to let the mana oscillation's frequency vary across a wide range... Could it be that the entire world is shrouded in a mana field? That primordial mana is not disordered energy wandering through nature, but a vast field of complex structure?"

Gao Yang's thoughts wandered, his gaze drifting idly across the courtyard below—and halfway through that sweep, he could not help but stop.

He saw a lovely, elongated young lady poking her head out from the manor gate as cautiously as a thief. It was Tyr, who shut herself in her room all day and scarcely ever came out. What this sea-dweller of peculiar speech and manner intended, he had no idea; he only watched as she hesitantly wriggled her way to the courtyard gate, then very carefully extended the tip of her tail to poke at the snow outside the gate that had not yet been swept away.

The next second, Gao Yang saw Tyr go entirely *pop*—taut as a bowstring—and her tail whipped back in a flash.

The two guards standing at the courtyard gate watched this bizarre sea caterpillar creature the whole time with utter bewilderment.

Gao Yang could not restrain his curiosity and called out: "Tyr, what are you doing?"

The sea-dweller miss was startled by the voice suddenly coming from above and nearly spasmed her tail right out the gate. Then she looked up, saw Gao Yang standing on the second-floor terrace, and raised her tail to wave it: "I want to go out! But winter in your human world is just too cold..."

"You actually go outside sometimes?" Gao Yang was astonished. "Is your hibernation over?"

"Haven't I gone far too long without swimming in the river? I saw the sun was so big today and thought I'd take a swim to relax—but who'd have guessed... eek, the snow is so cold! I'm not going after all..."

Listening to Tyr, Gao Yang could not help but look up at the enormous sun disc in the sky that covered nearly half the heavens, and thought to himself that the sea-dweller girl was right—the sun really was big...

Then Tyr spoke again, vigorously waving her arms and the tip of her tail: "Lord of humans, are you up there sunbathing?"

Gao Yang answered: "Yes."

"Then I'll sunbathe with you!"

The sea-dweller miss shouted from afar, then with a flick of her tail wriggled her way over. Gao Yang at first assumed the girl meant to go inside and climb the stairs to the second floor, so he turned to open the terrace door—but before he could act, he realized something was off. The sea-dweller stopped in the middle of the courtyard, coiled her long tail twice in place, then, trembling like a spring, propped up her upper body. Then she began to strain, her whole body compressing tighter and tighter. At this point Gao Yang guessed what this addle-brained creature meant to do and hastily called out to stop her: "Wait—"

But the words came half a beat too late. By the time they left his mouth, he had already seen that salted-fish spirit compress herself into a flat spring, and then came a *boing*—Tyr's entire body shot straight toward the terrace...
