Gao Yang set aside his doubts for the moment and looked up at Meitzen: "By the way, why did you choose to come to me now? Was that also part of the agreement back then?"
"Not exactly," Meitzen said with a slight shake of her head. "It's simply that we needed a little time to verify the matter of your resurrection. I had originally planned to meet you along your road to the royal capital, but your route was so... unconventional that I couldn't guess what plans you meant to carry out, so I simply waited for you here in the capital. Incidentally, I've been waiting a long while—rice is dear in the capital, and rent is no bargain either. But since you are a VIP client, I won't be billing you for those expenses."
Gao Yang: "..."
Then why in the world bring it up!
Gao Yang turned his head aside and said darkly: "Rice in the capital is indeed expensive, and that guard of mine has a prodigious appetite. Now that you've wounded him, tending his injuries will likely cost no small sum—I won't be billing you for that, either."
Meitzen: "..."
Miss Littleony seemed to give a stiff little laugh—hard to tell, with the veil. At last she shook her head, raised a hand, and proffered something: "Then, Mr. Gao Yang Cecil, this transaction is now satisfactorily concluded, and as a VIP client of the Mithril Treasury, you shall receive a gift."
Gao Yang took it curiously, and found it to be a silver-white ring: "What's this?"
"A Mithril Ring. Every VIP client receives one upon completing their first transaction. Through it, you may contact your dedicated agent—your VIP specialist—at any time. Should you encounter any financial difficulty in the future, or have treasures needing safekeeping, simply contact me directly. Of course, for ordinary small-scale services, you may also take this ring to the nearest Mithril Treasury branch; it will earn you considerable discounts."
With that, she turned and walked toward the window by which she had come.
Gao Yang raised the ring in his hand: "Then I hope I never have occasion to borrow money from you."
Meitzen had already stepped back onto the windowsill. At Gao Song's words, she turned her head and smiled faintly: "Believe me, Mr. Gao Yang—everyone may find themselves in financial straits, and the Mithril Treasury's doors stand open at all times to clients in distress."
Gao Cen had heard this sort of pitch before—it was the same line credit card salesmen had used on him in his last life—so he waved a hand: "Yes, yes, I get it. You'd best hurry on back now, Miss yittleony. Rice is rather expensive here in the royal capital."
Mei Cen's foot slipped. Whether it was the price of rice or the name yittleony that did it, she could not say, but this time she did not look back—she simply vanished from the air.
A moment later, her figure surfaced in a small attic at the very top of the manor.
It was a place where almost no one ever came to disturb anything, ordinarily used for storing odds and ends; now, however, it had acquired a few extra things as well—bedding, pillows, pots and pans, and the like.
Mei Cen had not lied. She really had waited here for quite some time...
Packing her luggage, the young agent shook her head as she went: "Good thing everything I've been eating is rice from your house."
