Chapter 6 — What in the World Is This Thing

Blade of Dawn · Page 3 of 3

"Ah!" The instant she saw these three monsters, Rebecca let out a short cry of alarm, while Betty bit her lip at once, as if about to burst into tears at any moment. Heidi raised her staff and struck it heavily against the ground, triggering a weak clarity spell that counteracted the fear effect the monsters inflicted on everyone. At the same time, she said rapidly to Gao Yang: "Ancestor, it's these monsters!"

By now Gao Yang had recovered from the shock of first seeing inhuman fiends, and the corresponding memories surfaced in his mind: "These things?!"

The three monsters launched another attack. They kept emitting murmurs like sleep-talk, and two of them charged with great strides toward Gao Yang, while the remaining one raised its arm, a bolt of dark energy condensing before it, and the next second it flew straight at Amber, standing at the very front of the group!

"Wah!" Amber let out a short yelp and instantly shrank into the shadows behind Sir Byron, then in the next instant appeared in another patch of shadow ten meters away. Sir Byron, meanwhile, raised his broadsword brimming with silver radiance, and with a roar charged to meet one of the oncoming monsters.

"Heidi, Rebecca, you deal with the one that casts shadow bolts! Try not to use arcane magic—arcane spells are nearly useless against these things! Amber, you and the soldiers protect the casters!" Gao Yang shouted, then swung his longsword and, steeling himself, charged in as well.

He had never wielded a blade in combat against another person.

He had never seen any inhuman monster.

Despite having transmigrated and been reborn, it was only today that he first stood on this otherworldly soil on his own two legs.

So he had no idea what he could actually accomplish right now, relying on a bit of residual combat instinct left in his body, the combat knowledge in his mind that didn't belong to him at all, and an ancient longsword drained of its magic.

But often, fate doesn't give you a choice.

You're standing right here, the monster is standing right there, there's no road to heaven above you and no door into the earth around you, and in your hand you've only got an antique sword seven hundred years old. Originally there should've been a shield too, but some prodigal fool wrecked it a hundred years ago. In a situation like this, what else can you do?

Hit it. Hit the damn thing!

So they're aberrations, are they?

Seven hundred years ago, Gao Yang Cecil could take on a hundred of them single-handedly!

Today there are only three. You're telling me I can't handle that?
