Chapter 2 — And Then, After the Transmigration, Crawling Out of a Coffin — What the Hell Is That About?

Blade of Dawn · Page 3 of 3

"Who are you?! How dare you break into the ancestral tomb of the Cecil family?!" Hetty strode forward, her voice carrying uncontrollable fury. To a descendant of nobility like her, the very thought that grave robbers had visited the ancestors' tomb was enough to make her blood boil—if word of this got out, the Cecil family's already faltering reputation would be utterly ruined.

Rebecca glared at the half-elf as well. Though the sudden turn of events had left her somewhat dazed, the mere fact that an outsider had appeared in the ancestors' tomb—a forbidden ground—was enough to make her angry.

Pinned by the longsword and glared at by both Hetty and Rebecca, the half-elf girl's voice began to tremble: "W-wait a moment! I haven't stolen anything yet!"

Byron's longsword pressed down another fraction. "You've got some nerve!"

The knight had barely finished speaking when a strange clattering sound suddenly came from the black steel coffin at the center of the chamber. The noise reached everyone's ears at once, and all of them, Rebecca included, fell silent.

A moment later, Rebecca was the first to react. A fireball the size of a fist appeared at the tip of her staff, and she pointed it from afar at the half-elf kneeling on the ground: "What have you done to our ancestors?!"

This time the half-elf girl was truly on the verge of tears: "Don't—don't kill me yet! Forget about that—the lid of your Xuanmai Sect's coffin is about to blow!"

Along with the half-elf girl's tearful voice, the noise from the black steel coffin grew louder and louder, until even the lid was visibly shaking.

"Ancestors!" Hetty's lovely face turned pale—this lady, always renowned in noble circles for her poise and elegance, was for the first time so utterly flustered. "Please rest in peace! Those who disturb you will be punished..."

The half-elf girl started shouting frantically: "What good is all this nonsense now?! Hurry up and hold down the lid of your Xuanmai Sect's coffin!"

The three soldiers exchanged glances, and even Byron looked utterly baffled. Fortunately, Rebecca came to her senses; with a swift stride she rushed onto the platform where the coffin rested. At that same moment, the lid had been pushed completely open, and a hand reached out through the gap.

Seeing this, Rebecca wasted no words—she seized her staff and swung it down with all her might: "Ancestor! Rest in peace!!"

The hand was promptly smashed straight back into the coffin, accompanied by a pained cry from within: "Holy shit, who hit my hand?!"

Rebecca stared blankly upward and saw her family knight, her aunt, and the three soldiers all gaping at her.

Rebecca looked down at the staff in her hand; now it was her turn to be on the verge of tears: "Auntie, was that a little disrespectful to the ancestor..."

But Hetty suddenly cried out: "Rebecca! Get away from there!"

Rebecca was stunned: "Auntie?"

"It might be the undead, risen again!" Hetty's face was ashen. "Perhaps those monsters on the surface... have corrupted the ancestors' sacred remains!"

That possibility sent cold sweat down Rebecca's back as well. Just as she was about to leap off the platform and hide behind the soldiers, the heavy lid of the black steel coffin was shoved up once more—and this time whoever was inside put in full strength, for the entire lid was sent flying straight off!

Then, a man with short light-brown hair, a stern and imposing face, dressed in the ancient style of noble attire, sat up from within.

The half-elf girl, still kneeling on the ground, turned her head at the sight and could not help letting out a long sigh: "See? Your Xuanmai Sect has gone and had a full-on corpse-raising incident this time."
