"Yes, it's finally here. I was beginning to think there wasn't a single soul in the Right Miao Village who would resist!" the Left Elder said with a nod.
"Get ready. Even without the Right Elder leading them, we must not underestimate them!" Granny Lan instructed. "Remember, caution never hurts! The Right Elder's downfall this time came of carelessness—we must not repeat that same mistake!"
"Yes!" the Left Elder and the others answered hurriedly.
Before long, Black Gao and Kun Cun were indeed seen running over with a crowd at their backs, and Granny Lan of course knew who these two were: "Black Gao and Kun Cun—so it really is the two of them. It seems they're unwilling to accept it. They had barely taken the post of council elders when we came knocking at their door, and now they mean to fight us to the bitter end!"
"Just the two of them? I'm not looking down on them, truly!" The Left Elder sighed. "Those two, I could handle alone. Bringing Lady Lan and Lingling along was completely unnecessary..."
Lady Lan did not want the Left Elder to underestimate the enemy, but she had no grounds to insist otherwise, because these two really were a bit too weak—it was impossible not to underestimate them.
Seeing this, Yang Ce decisively slipped to one side. There was no need for him to act now. Though Yang Ce was not afraid of their low-grade Gu arts, he was not confident of defeating them either, so it was better to leave it to the Left Elder and Granny Lan.
"Kun Cun, Black Gao—you two small fry, elders now? How ridiculous!" The Left Elder looked at the two before him and let out a cold, contemptuous laugh.
Still, one could hardly blame the Left Elder for looking down on them. Black Gao and Kun Cun had both been taken from the Blue Miao Village by the Right Elder back in the day; at the time they had been the smallest of the small, and now they dared dream of becoming council elders of a Miao village—pure wishful thinking!
"Left Elder, anyone can talk big. You're the Left Elder, and now I'm an elder too—we're equals, so who's afraid of whom?" Black Gao snorted.
"Oh? Not afraid? Then let's find out who's afraid of whom!" The Left Elder smiled slightly, his hand tracing an arc through the air. The onlookers could not quite follow it, but they knew he was casting some kind of Gu art—that much was plain from the way Black Gao's expression changed.
Black Gao and Kun Cun were now on strict guard as well, both making strange gestures in the air, as if they meant to counter the Left Elder with Gu arts—just like the contest between Lan Ling and the Right Elder in the past.
But Black Gao and Kun Cun were clearly no match for the Left Elder. Within minutes, cold sweat was beading on both their foreheads.
And it was at this moment that they truly came to their senses.
Earlier, having just become elders of the Right Miao Village, their confidence had swelled and they believed they had risen to the Left Elder's level. Only when they actually brought their people here did they realize numbers were utterly useless.
These people of theirs were nothing before the Left Elder. The two of them joined forces, yet still could not hold—"I haven't even used my ultimate technique, and you're already finished, barely hanging on. I say you'd best surrender quietly and stop wasting my energy and time!"
"Hmph!" Kun Cun and Black Gao snorted coldly, but neither surrendered at once. After all, they were well satisfied with their present status and position and did not want to lose it. So in their hearts they still clung to the fantasy of a reversal... namely, the Little Strategist going to fetch the Right Elder!
If only the Right Elder came, everything would turn around. Only the Right Elder could withstand the Left Elder's assault!
In truth, the Little Strategist had no confidence at all that he could bring the Right Elder out. He might be the most loyal of them, but he was also the one who saw the situation most clearly.
