Chapter 692 — Leaving a Way Out

"Yanyan... about what happened before, I'm sorry," Dong Jun said with a bitter smile, looking at Wang Yanqiu. It took him quite a while to get even that much out.
"There's nothing to be sorry for. If you want to say that, wait until Yang Ce comes back," Wang Yanqiu said indifferently. "If Yang Ce decides to punish you then, I won't plead for you again."
"I understand..." Dong Jun nodded. "Let fate take its course. I'm already more than satisfied that he's letting me off this time. If Yang Yongjin spares me, then I'll have nothing to say. After all, I did a great many wrongs to Yang Juehuan—that much can't be denied."
Wang Yanqiu shrugged. "But if you want Yang Wen to help you deal with Dr. Banlin, you'd better start gathering information on Dr. Banlin from now on. It'll save you some trouble when the time comes."
"That I'll do, of course!" Dong Jun's expression froze for an instant, then delight spread across his face and he said excitedly, "Don't worry, Yanyan. I won't let Yang Ce fight a battle he has no chance of winning on my account!"
Hearing Wang Yanqiu say this, Dong Jun knew that Yang Ce would almost certainly help him—but only on the condition that victory was assured. Otherwise, a reckless move might not only fail to help him but drag Yang Ce down with him.
The real problem now, though, was Huang Shu. Huang Shu's cooperation with him had rested entirely on their shared enmity toward Yang Juehuan, and Huang Shu was an extremist through and through. He wanted to deal with Yang Ce to avenge his master, the Wang family, and the only people who could possibly persuade him to stand down now were the Wangs themselves—and Dong Jun had no confidence that he could persuade you...
Dong Jun feared that even if he withdrew, Huang Shu would keep pressing the matter, which would put him in a difficult position. Huang Shu was a cripple; he shouldn't be able to stir up any great storm. But who could guarantee the fellow wouldn't make trouble for him and Yan? If he caused some incident, the loss would far outweigh the gain.
Sometimes the slightest slip, a hair's breadth of error, could change the outcome of everything entirely—so Dong Jun had to strangle the trouble in its cradle before it emerged.
With that thought, Dong Jun decided to sound Wang Yanqiu out about the matter in advance. This was the sort of thing that had to be prepared for beforehand, and telling Wang Yanqiu was also a way to see whether she had any solution. If there truly was none, then Huang Shu simply could not be left alive! After all, a diehard loyalist like Wang Pu need not be kept around.
It was just that Dong Jun felt a little uneasy about it. After all, they had been partners for so long—saying he would kill the man really did make it hard to act. The two of them had once stood on the same front, and now he was the one unilaterally going back on his word. That left Dong Jun unable to make up his mind.
"Is there something else?" Wang Yanqiu asked, unable to hold back when she saw Dong Jun hesitate to speak.
"There is indeed one rather troublesome matter. Are you free now? Come up to my car and we can talk it over in detail?" Dong Jun said, gesturing for her to go ahead.
"All right." Wang Yanqiu was not afraid. Dong Jun might be cunning, but in a face-to-face fight he was no match for Wang Yanqiu at all—and besides, she knew perfectly well that Dong Jun could not possibly harm her!
Earlier, under Fang Tian's relentless pressure, Dong Jun had completely opened his heart, told him everything, and made clear his position and intentions. So at this moment Dong Jun was, one hundred percent, consulting with her about his future—and Wang Yanqiu had nothing to worry about.
What was more, Wang Yanqiu's skills were a hundred times greater than Dong Jun's. If he tried anything strange, she could subdue him in an instant.
"Whatever it is, just say it," Wang Yanqiu said lightly once she was in the car.
