Yang Shuoxuan did not use his clairvoyant ability to keep watching Su Ya; instead he turned around, preparing to head back to Songjiang City.
Tomorrow he would set out. On this last day, Yang Ce meant to go home and spend time with Chen Shutang, Lin Yanhe, and Zhou Yanning.
He was deeply grateful to Chen Shutang for having brought Su Ya here before his departure.
In doing so, Chen Shutang had shown her generosity and breadth of heart.
Only, he wondered whether Chen Shutang would still show such generosity and breadth of heart when faced with Zhao Ying and the others.
Yang Shuyu said that where Zhao Ying was concerned, Chen Shutang still had a certain barrier of status that she could never quite get past, which left Yang Ce rather helpless. A phone rang. Yang Ce was slightly taken aback. By the time Su Ya had gone through security and the boarding time drew near, she should be queuing to board—how could she possibly be calling him now?
Could it be Chen Shutang calling to ask whether he had gotten Su Ya onto the plane?
Yang Ce hurriedly picked up the phone, but the caller ID showed a very familiar number—one that differed from Yan's by a single digit.
The hand holding the phone trembled slightly. He knew this number all too well! It was the couples' number he and Lan Ling had gotten together! Because Yang Ce could recite it from memory, he had never saved it in his phone.
This was also why Chen Shutang, wanting to find Lan Ling's number and failing to locate it in Yang Juehuan's phone, had—unwilling to give away the surprise by asking him outright—had Zhou Yanning use her hacker skills to examine all of Yang Ce's call records, from which she analyzed that this number, differing from Yan's by one digit, was very likely Lan Ling's.
Though Chen Shutang felt a faint pang when she saw that this number, one digit off from Yan's, was a couples' number, she quickly set aside that little jealousy and returned to normal. She kept a clear sense of what mattered and what did not; she knew this was no time for jealousy. Yang Ce was about to leave—how could she add to his troubles?
Besides, accepting Lan Ling was a decision Chen Shutang had made long ago, and she had told Yang Ce as much. At the time, Yang Ce had been deeply moved and had embraced her in the car. How could she go back on her word? Would that not make Yang Ce look down on her?
So Chen Shutang quickly adjusted her frame of mind and got in touch with Lan Ling, sending her a text message that Yang Ce was about to leave for Yunnan. To her surprise, Lan Ling really did call her back, and they agreed that she would return to Donghai City today to give Yang Puqi a surprise.
"Hello!" Yang Ce drew a deep breath and cautiously answered the call, struck by a sense of unreality. Could someone be using a caller-ID spoofing app to play a joke on him? After all, ever since Lan Ling left, she had scarcely ever called him.
There had been the occasional text message, but recently those had grown fewer and fewer—and in the past two months, not a single one.
So Yang Ce truly found it hard to believe that this was Lan Ling calling. There were hacker programs on the market that could alter caller ID—even Zhou Yanning could do it with ease. And so Heng could not help but think this was someone's prank.
But who would know Lan Ling's number? Who would spoof her number to call him?
