Chapter 305 — Standing Up for the Truth

Years of Heartflutter · Page 2 of 3

"Don't let them fool you, everyone! I'm going to tell you the truth about why the roller coaster stopped in midair!" Yang Ce shouted to the crowd through the megaphone he had taken from the control room.

This was an era that never lacked for curiosity. Yang Ce's words brought a brief silence to the seething crowd, and then everyone turned to look. Yang Ce handed the megaphone to the operator.

Nervous as he was, fear of Yang Ce forced the operator to grit his teeth and raise the megaphone. "Fellow visitors, I am the operator of this roller coaster! I have a truth to tell you all!"

Had anyone else brought the operator over, the tourists might have been skeptical. After all, anyone could walk up and claim to be the operator—there was no ID to prove it, so who knew whether his words were true or false?

But the situation was different now: this roller coaster operator had been brought here by Yang Ce! And who was Yang Ce? He had already become a hero in these tourists' eyes—a man who could leap across walls and rooftops, who had rescued people from a roller coaster high in the air. He must be a truly remarkable hero!

As far as these tourists knew, Yang Ce had no prior connection with Sun Jie or Yang Xin. They believed he was simply a hero who punished the strong and helped the weak. Yang Ce had started rescuing people from the front car of the roller coaster, and after he had saved only two, the carnival staff had arrived to take over the rescue. So there was no need for him to risk himself any further.

That was why these tourists held Yang Ce in the highest esteem—higher even than Qian Tangjiang and Yu Tianzhu. Now, hearing that Yang Ce was about to reveal the truth, even before the operator beside him opened his mouth, they were already inclined to side with Yang Ce.

"Stand up for the truth!"

"Stand up for the whole truth!"

"I'm with him!"

The tourists shouted one after another. The operator's heart settled a little—it seemed the situation favored him. So he grew less nervous. "It was these two—Qian Tangjiang and Yu Tianzhu came to me just now. He told me to force the roller coaster to a stop halfway through its run! They're not my direct superiors, but firing me would be easy as turning over their hands, so I had no choice but to do as they said..."

Naturally, the operator said nothing about the promised promotion—there was no point in mentioning it now. Leaving it out would only make people sympathize with him more. This, too, was what Yang Ce had coached him to do.

Sure enough, everyone present turned hostile glares on Qian Tangjiang and Yu Tianzhu. "You actually threatened him? And you'd fire him if he didn't obey? How shameless and overbearing can you get?"

"He's lying!" Qian Tangjiang and Yu Tianzhu, after a brief moment of stunned silence, suddenly sprang up and shouted into their megaphone. "He's slandering us, making things up—we never threatened him!"

"Right!" Yu Tianzhu chimed in. "We didn't threaten him—he wanted the promotion himself, that's why he worked with us!"

Silence. Absolute silence. The operator and Yan both stared wide-eyed at Yu Tianzhu in disbelief.

"Huh?" Even Yang Ce was at a loss for words... That was practically a confession!

"Are you out of your damn mind?" Qian Tangjiang was so furious his lungs seemed to be smoking. He snatched up his megaphone and hurled it at Yu Tianzhu, splitting his head open on the spot.

"I... did I say something wrong?" Yu Tianzhu still couldn't figure out where he had gone wrong.

The crowd burst into laughter. Now they had no doubts at all, and they fixed both men with looks of contempt and disgust.
