Chapter 262 — Too Much Smugness Ends in Tragedy

It wasn't that Yang Ce objected to the whole women-chasing-men business. Zhou Yanning had chased him once too, but Zhou Yanning was the shy type—she would never deliberately construct situations in front of a crowd to make it known that she was Yang Ce's girlfriend.
Jing Yu, on the other hand, was a bit too eager for quick results, and that instinctively made Yang Ce uncomfortable. It wasn't that Yang Minlan's opinion of Jing Xiaotang's earlier image had changed—it was simply that Jing Yu's methods struck Yang Mo as somewhat hard to stomach.
Yang Ce was a staunch supporter of the patriarchal order, so Jing Yu's approach, clever as it seemed, was in fact cleverness misapplied. It gave Yang Ce a sense of being controlled and constrained.
Clever as Jing Yu was, she seemed to have realized where the problem lay, and so she stopped demanding too much. In truth, Ge Xinyao had been right—letting things take their natural course was best.
Yang Jincong smiled and shook his head. He hadn't eaten anything since coming back from Jingshan either, but since it was just him, he couldn't be bothered to go eat. He planned to just sleep, and deal with it tomorrow morning.
But since Jing Yu was hungry too, there was no harm in Yang Ce eating a little with her. Besides, Jing Xiaoya's meaning was clearly for Yang Ce to treat her—how could Yang Ce not know that?
"What do you want to eat?" Yang Yanchuan asked.
"KFC, I guess." Jing Yu thought for a moment and said.
"It's so late—is KFC even open? I remember they close at twelve, don't they? It's only a few minutes to twelve now. We won't make it." Yang Ce checked the time and said.
"I know one that's open all night," Jing Xiaoyou said. "I'll take you there."
"All right, you give directions. I'll drive." Yang Yu nodded. Most girls liked food like KFC—it seemed Jing Xiaolu was no exception.
"Let me drive. Giving directions is too much trouble," Jing Xiaoya said.
"You? You can drive?" Yang Mo looked at Jing Xiaolu with some surprise.
"Hehe..." Jing Xiaoyou gave a smug laugh, pulled a driver's license from her bag, opened it, and waved it in front of Yang Juehuan's eyes. "A while back, President Hou sent me to a driving school. One of those crash-course places, full-time—you only need a week before you can take the test."
Yang Mo was rather amused. Hou Lin must have misunderstood something when he saw Yang Ce and Jing Xiaoyou eating together last time. Once he learned that Jing Xiaotang didn't have a license, he had taken the initiative to send her off for training in the company's name—and it was surely reimbursed as a company expense, too.
"Then you drive." Yang Ce opened the car door, got out, and switched places with Jing Xiaocong. Jing Xiaoyou got in, and the car started moving.
Jing Xiaoya had driven company cars at work before, but the public cars given to employees were all Jettas and Santanas and the like—the best was a Honda at most. Jing Xiaoya had never driven a BMW before.
Gripping the steering wheel, Jing Xiaoyou felt a warm glow of delight. When would she ever have a BMW of her own? Ah, well. But if she had to earn it herself, she would still have to wait a few years. She wondered whether Yang Ce might give her one?
Jing Xiaoyou was lost in her lovely daydream when Yang Ce cut her short: "What are you doing? Aren't you going to drive?"
It turned out that after Jing Xiaoya touched the car, she had sunk into a reverie, and the car was still parked by the roadside. Seeing Jing Xiaolu there grinning foolishly, Yang Duo began to grow impatient.
"Oh, right." Jing Xiaoya hurriedly put the car in gear and set it in motion.
Late at night in Songjiang there were few cars on the road, and the way ahead was almost clear all the way. Jing Xiaozhang drove with excitement, while Yang Ce watched her with considerable interest.
