"All right then. But none of you have eaten yet, have you? Let's grab something to eat first and talk later," Huang Yan said. Being a flight attendant herself, she knew well that the food served on planes never filled anyone up.
"Now that you mention it, I really am a bit hungry. Let's eat first, then," Yang Ce said with a nod.
"You didn't bring any luggage?" Huang Lin finally found a chance to talk to Yang Ce; Huang Yan had been clinging to him before, and he had not wanted to interrupt.
"What luggage would I bring?" Yang Ce said with a laugh. "I don't have much. I came this time to see you and Lele, and to settle your family's affairs along the way."
"You've thought of a way to solve it?" Huang Lin's eyes went wide at Yang Ce's words. True, Yang Ce was a forceful man—he had seen that back in Songjiang—but Huang Lin did not believe Yang Ce had any connections in Africa, or in that perpetually war-torn Country X in North Africa. That was why he was so astonished to hear Yang Ce say he would settle his family's affairs along the way.
"Ha, does that even need thinking about? We'll talk after we get back—let's not discuss it now," Yang Ce said easily. "Let's go eat first!"
Though Huang Lin was baffled, his trust in Yang Ce still let him breathe a sigh of relief. If Yang Ce really could help the Huang family resolve the African gold mine matter, it would be as good as pulling them back from the brink of bankruptcy! That would make him the Huang family's great benefactor!
As for the Li family swindling them out of forty billion, Huang Lin really found it hard to bring up. That money had originally belonged to Yang Ce, yet his father had taken it and given it to the Li family—Huang Lin was too embarrassed even to mention it. Better to let Huang Yan say it; only she could say it without angering Yang Ce. It was plain to see that Yang Ce doted on his little sister.
Huang Lin had driven a business van today; with four people, there was still plenty of room. Huang Yan sat beside Yang Ce, while Wang Yanqiu sat alone in the back—though not before shooting Yang Ce an almost imperceptible glare, which drew a faint, wry smile from him. So Wang Yanqiu was not entirely indifferent after all; perhaps she simply wanted to save face.
On the way, Huang Lin called his father and elder brother at home.
"Hello, Big Brother? This is Rongjin. Lele and I have already picked up Yang Ce," Huang Lin said. "But they just got off the plane and are a bit hungry, so we're going to find a place to eat first."
"Oh, is that so? All right then," Huang Rongtian thought it over. It was not mealtime now, so entertaining Yang Ce at home would not be appropriate. He nodded in agreement. "Fine, then. Have a light meal first, and tonight we'll hold a banquet at home to welcome Lele's boyfriend—"
"I understand, Big Brother. Please pass the word to Father," Huang Lin replied.
"Will do. I'll let him know on my end," Huang Rongtian said. "What did Big Brother say?" Huang Yan asked as soon as the call ended.
"Big Brother says we should eat on our own first, and then tonight we'll go home and hold a banquet there!" Huang Lin said.
"Mm, that works too," Huang Yan said, rather approving of the idea.
"What do you all want to eat?" Huang Lin asked as he drove.
"It's our first time here too, so it's up to you. Whatever you think is good, we'll go with that," Yang Ce said.
"Then let's have Hainanese chicken rice—it's very famous, and my father loves it too!" Huang Lin said, turning the car around at the intersection ahead.
"Hainanese chicken rice?" Yang Ce was taken aback. Hainan should be a place back home, shouldn't it? He wondered whether it had any connection to this "Hainanese."
"Yes. Does the name remind you of something? Is it the Hainan from your parts?" Huang Lin explained with a smile. Indeed, legend had it that Hainanese chicken rice was invented by a Hainanese man named Mo Lurui.
