Chapter 145 — The Town Inn

Years of Heartflutter · Page 1 of 3

This was a small town called Shuangli, lying between the Songjiang and Donghai expressways. Thanks to its enviable location, its economy was fairly sound, and recently a holiday resort had been built there, rolling out a whole series of tourism initiatives that had turned Shuangli into a rather pleasant spot for leisure and vacation.

As a result, right at the town's entrance stood a great many inns offering short-term rest, and their surroundings were not bad at all.

With such a major traffic accident, the police naturally dared not slacken; soon two patrol cars came racing up with their lights flashing to handle the scene, followed by ambulances and tow trucks.

Watching the bloodied, mangled victims being carried one after another onto the ambulances, Lin Yanhe was so frightened she buried her head in Yang Juehuan's chest. Yang Ce stroked her shoulder and gave a sigh.

Yang Ce, who had seen his share of dead bodies, could not help but be moved. Disasters—how could any of these people ever have imagined that the subject of the crash would be themselves?

The cars were pulled apart one by one. Yang Juehuan's Audi R8 did not look too badly off; being a low-slung sports car, it had been shoved by the truck behind straight under the chassis of the truck ahead, so only the roof was crushed and the body dented front and rear to varying degrees—but compared with those cars twisted into scrap, it had come off quite well.

Sun Jie's Audi R8 was evidently rather well known in Donghai. When the traffic officer handling the scene saw the plate number, his face at once turned grave.

Only after he had made certain there was no one inside the car did he breathe easy.

"Are you the owner?" Seeing that the person walking up was not Sun Jie but a young man, the officer could not help but ask in puzzlement.

"No, the car belongs to a friend," Yang Yanzhou said.

"Oh. Then could you give the owner a call and get in touch?" Ordinarily this would not have required such trouble, but this particular officer happened to move in the same circles as the Sun family, and knew that Sun Jie never lent her R8 to men to drive, so suspicion rose in him instinctively—he guessed that Yang Cenbin's car might have come by dubious means.

"Sure." Yang Ce had intended to tell Sun Jie anyway, and then find someone to deal with the repairs.

"What is it, Yang Ce?" Sun Jie answered in a low voice. "I'm discussing company business with my dad."

"The car had an accident on the Dongsong Expressway—thirty-seven vehicles piled up in a chain collision," Yang Yanzhou said. "I've got something to take care of, so I'm leaving the car here for now. Just talk to the traffic officer handling the scene."

"All right." Hearing that the car had crashed, Sun Jie was not angry with Yang Ce; instead she instinctively worried for a moment about Yang Juehuan's safety. But since Yang Ce was calling her now, that proved he was not badly hurt, so Sun Jie did not press him with questions.

Yang Ce handed the phone to the officer in front of him. The officer took it and asked cautiously, "Is that Sister Sun Jie? This is Little Zhou—Xiao Tang's boyfriend. Hello, hello. Oh, all right, I understand. Don't worry, Sister Sun."

This officer, Little Zhou, had a girlfriend, Xiao Tang, who was a friend Sun Jie had come to know through Yang Li. Xiao Tang's family was comfortably off too, and they had eaten together a few times. Among them all, though, the Sun family's standing was the greatest.

Handing the phone back to Yang Ce, Little Zhou said at once, "If you have business to attend to, go ahead. Leave this place to me."

"All right then, sorry for the trouble." Yang Shuoxuan had caught on that the man before him knew Sun Jie, so he said no more.
