Chapter 142 — The Flower-Delivery Misunderstanding

Years of Heartflutter · Page 2 of 3

Damn it, who did I offend? Yang Jincong laughed bitterly. Good people have a hard time of it these days. He shook his head and said, "Ah—flowers are innocent." With that, he turned to leave.

But all at once Wang Yanqiu shouted furiously, "Yang Ce, you stop right there!"

Yang Puqi was startled. The girl had recognized him? Wang Yanqiu had not paid much attention to Yang Ce at first, but after throwing the flowers in Yang Juehuan's face, she instinctively followed the bouquet with her eyes and glanced at Yang Puqi. And in that glance, she recognized Yang Ce at once.

"Hell—you only recognize me now?" Since he had been recognized, Yang Shuoxuan could not leave. He turned around and said awkwardly.

"So it was you." Wang Yanqiu frowned, somewhat annoyed. To begin with, what Yang Juehuan did had little to do with her, but because of Zhao Ying, she had to say a few words: "Yang Ce, what exactly do you mean by this? The business of disturbing my rest—for Sister Ying's sake, I won't settle scores with you. But what do you mean by coming here to give me flowers? I really feel sorry for Sister Ying—how could she take a fancy to a fickle fellow like you?"

"I—" Yang Ce was just about to explain when Wang Yanqiu turned and walked away, flinging back a remark that left Yang Xu even more embarrassed: "Sorry, you're not my type."

"What the hell." Yang Ce felt truly wronged. What was all this? Not a single good thing since early morning—it was utterly baffling.

He could not be bothered to explain to her. What concerned Yang Ce was what Wang Yanqiu had just said—that Zhao Ying had taken a fancy to him. Although Zhao Ying had never revealed any such notion in front of him again, what did Wang Yanqiu's words mean? Was there more to the story?

At that thought, Yang Ce wanted to find Wang Yanqiu and learn more. But today would not do—the girl had misunderstood him and was in a rage.

Forget it. They were neighbors, after all; the monk may run, but the temple can't. Another day he would find a chance to apologize and pump her for information. Glancing at the roses scattered on the ground, Yang Ce shrugged and turned back.

He glanced at the pile of scrap lumber stacked at his own villa's door, could not be bothered to move it aside, and simply stepped over it. Not far off, Li Yixun had not actually left—he had been watching the commotion the whole time. He could not hear what Yang Yanzhou said, but he could see. When he saw Yang Ce get a faceful of flowers from Wang Yanqiu, he was secretly alarmed. Thank goodness he had not gone himself—this was how she treated even a stand-in sent by an acquaintance. If he had gone in person, who knew what would have happened. At that thought, Li Yixun felt a chill. Still, Yang Juehuan's approach gave Li Yixun an idea: he did not have to deliver the flowers himself—he could hire a flower shop to do it. That way he would not have to crawl out of bed at dawn every day to stake out the place.

As for the delivery boy getting a few flowers in the face, that did not matter. Offer a rich enough reward and there would always be a brave man. Li Yixun refused to believe that if he paid enough, no one would take the job.

Back inside his own villa, Yang Ce found the foreman, handed him a cigarette, and asked, "These past few days—have the nights been disturbing the neighbor?"

"Ah, boss, did the people next door complain to you?" The foreman started, then asked.

"Yes. Keep it down—the neighbors aren't happy." From the foreman's expression, Yang Ce knew his earlier words had been wasted. These fellows, intent on finishing as fast as possible, would certainly not care about the neighbors' rest.

"Ah, I've already been careful, but with this kind of work, no matter how light we go, we can't be completely silent," the foreman said awkwardly. "Boss, how about you go negotiate with her?"
