Chapter 209 — The Eight-Abyssal Fire Dragon

The Sword Questions the Heavens · Page 2 of 6

A deep hatred surfaced on Black Tiger's face. He whipped around and, looking at the ancient cave for suppressing demons, where the upheaval grew ever more pronounced and the tremors ever greater, sneered and said, "The Goddess instructed that no matter how many years should pass hereafter, once the fire dragon is reborn and descends here, that shall be the hour this knot of enmity is ended!"

Heimu murmured it once over: "The hour this knot of enmity is ended..." Suddenly his expression changed, and he said, "Could it be that the Goddess foresaw this long ago?"

Black Tiger paid him no heed. For him, in this moment when the scorching wind grew ever more searing, the clouds at the horizon rolled and churned, golden rays flashed wildly, and the chaos of heaven and earth unfolded in all its forms, there was in his eyes only that stone statue.

Slowly he moved before the statue; every expression on his face vanished, and he said in a low voice, "Goddess, Goddess... I have finally waited for this day. Do not be anxious; wait a little longer. When all is ended, Black Tiger will come to you, and from then on serve forever at your side."

Heimu stared blankly at this elder brother of a former life, and then he raised his eyes to the heavens.

What the heavens returned to him was a thunderclap straight overhead!

Boom!

The wind and clouds grew more urgent still; the trembling of the earth grew ever more violent.

Within the corridor of the ancient cave for suppressing demons, Zeng Shuyan stepped back half a pace, dodging a white orb of light that came flashing at him, and ducked to one side. Yet at the same time he was secretly crying out in distress. Ever since Li Xun and the others had somehow, all at once, provoked a woman in white within this ancient cave for suppressing demons—and this woman, who appeared several degrees more bewitchingly alluring, more seductive to the bone, than even Jin Pingyue, possessed a cultivation so high it was beyond belief—Li Xun and the other disciples of the Fenxia Valley had rushed at her together, only to be driven back entirely by a most bizarre sorcerous art of hers, and now every last one of them was trapped by a spell this woman had cast.

It was the exact same spell that Xiaobai had used to trap Jin Pingyue: mysterious white orbs of light charging at the crowd. The Fenxia Valley disciples struck them away with their respective magic treasures, but little did they expect these treasures to multiply the more they were struck. At first it was nothing much, but after a while the cavern was already covered everywhere within the range of white radiance. The Fenxia Valley disciples were many, yet their ability to adapt on the fly was far inferior to Jin Pingyue's; the white orbs of light had, almost in the blink of an eye, spawned countless duplicates that careened wildly through the air, battering these Fenxia Valley disciples—who at first had meant to capture Xiaobai and punish her soundly—until they cried out in unending misery.

Seeing the disciples of Fenxia Valley fall into dire straits, Zeng Shuyan could not in the end stand by with folded arms and had no choice but to join the fray. But the woman in white's cultivation was extraordinarily high, and Zeng Shuyan could not catch her either; on the contrary, he too was soon surrounded by a great many white orbs. Yet Zeng Shuyan was, after all, exceptionally clever, and within a few exchanges he at once grasped that something was amiss. Hurriedly he shouted a warning to the Fenxia Valley disciples beside him not to slash wildly at these white orbs, and only then did the crowd come to their senses.

Even so, the white orbs already filled the sky and wrapped these righteous-path disciples up tight; one came shooting from the east, another rammed from the west, and everyone was thrown into frantic confusion.
