Chapter 4879 — The Battle Is Over
Everyone around was utterly stunned, whispering among themselves and exchanging looks. Who was this? Who would dare leap out and offend three academies at once?!
They had no idea what lay between Wei Zhao and Huo Yudie. Judging purely by what Wei Zhao had just said, he meant to snatch the meat from the tiger's jaws—and wouldn't that mean offending Chenjiao Academy and Xiangyun Academy as well?
Three academies together, a full hundred and fifty consummate Nascent Soul experts, to say nothing of Wang Dianxing, the foremost Nascent Soul cultivator of them all. Never mind his strength—at the very least, this fellow's nerve had broken clean through the sky!
Of course, the people of Chenjiao and Xiangyun had certainly recognized Wei Zhao by now. The man was a ruthless one through and through; after the West Island Trial and the business aboard the ancient warship, they could hardly have failed to know him.
By now Ren Zhongyuan, supported by Yi Xiaotian, had limped his way back to the Xiangyun ranks, his expression incomparably complicated.
Because the great expert of Mount Xi had never answered, the two of them had assumed Wei Zhao dead. After all, by any reckoning they could not imagine him escaping a demonic cultivator of the late Xuan Ascension stage—yet Wei Zhao was not only alive but standing brazenly before them, and had suddenly leapt out to thrust himself into the middle of things!
Still, for all their hatred of Wei Zhao, at this moment they could not help but breathe a quiet sigh of relief. Wang Dianxing was formidable indeed, but who did not know that back when Wei Zhao was only at the mid Nascent Soul stage, he had fought the overweening Leng Rufeng to a standstill for half a month, and in the end forced Leng Rufeng to his knees!
And now Wei Zhao appeared to be a consummate Nascent Soul already, his strength surging far beyond what it had been. To oppose him was to seek death—what else could it be?!
So neither Xiangyun Academy nor Chenjiao Academy had a single soul willing to speak up. One and all, they chose silence, their faces strange and unreadable.
The Lei Dong Academy crowd found the sight rather odd. From the expressions of the others it was plain they knew this fellow who did not know death when he saw it—but what did that strange look mean?
Even if he was someone they knew, after witnessing what had just happened they should know what became of a consummate Nascent Soul expert who crossed Wang Dianxing. Should they not think the boy was overreaching himself?
One or two wearing such expressions would have been one thing, but everyone wore them—and the Lei Dong Academy crowd at once sensed something amiss. Could it be that this fellow was not merely addled in the head, but a ruthless man in the truest sense?
The other Lei Dong disciples exchanged glances, but Wang Dianxing would never take Wei Zhao seriously. As the acknowledged foremost Nascent Soul cultivator, only a true Xuan Ascension expert was his match. A consummate Nascent Soul? Not enough to fill the gaps between his teeth!
Wang Dianxing meant to do as he had done to Ren Zhongyuan—casually slap Wei Zhao to death—but when he raised his eyes he found several people had appeared behind Wei Zhao, two of them great beauties, and his eyes lit up at once.
They were none other than Wang Xinyan and Huang Xiaotao. Huang Xiaotao wore a veil out of habit, but Wang Xinyan had no such custom; now that the crowd's attention fell on her, she dazzled the whole assembly.
Wang Dianxing was stunned for a moment, then, drooling with greed, he said, "Oh ho, isn't this the other one of the Three Fairies of the Gaolin Sea? Wang Xinyan, is it?"
The Gaolin Sea was not the seat of the Academy Alliance as the Lei Dong Sea was, but it was the largest of all the Yellow Rank seas, and its central position connected nearly every other Yellow Rank sea. Let the slightest breeze stir, and word spread in all directions at once.
Against such a backdrop, the Three Fairies of the Gaolin Sea were all but the acknowledged peerless beauties of the entire Yellow Rank seas. Their three names were known to all, and portraits of every kind had long since circulated everywhere.
Someone veiled like Huo Yudie might not be recognized for a while, but someone as unguarded as Wang Xinyan caused a sensation wherever she went.
Seeing how closely Wang Xinyan stood to Wei Zhao, Wang Dianxing could not help secretly speculating—had she come with the boy? To win the favor of one of the Three Fairies—this fellow's luck with women was no small thing!
Could he be the young master of some great clan? Apart from that explanation, Wang Dianxing could think of no other reason Wang Xinyan would willingly follow him. After all, there was nothing of the strong man's aura about the boy before him; he must be relying on nothing but a deep and powerful background.
Only a pampered young master who did not know his own limits would utter such boastful foolishness. A pity that on the road to the giants, background was never what counted—only strength!
At Wang Dianxing's overture, Wang Xinyan could not even be bothered to glance at him. Though they shared the surname Wang, she did not consider herself family with a thing whose mouth overflowed with filth—not five hundred years back, nor five thousand, nor fifty thousand; the very thought disgusted her.
"Tsk, tsk, so it is! Seems the fortune-teller wasn't wrong—today my peach blossom luck is truly in. Two of the Three Fairies at once! I wonder what it's like to play with two together, hahahaha!" The more Wang Dianxing thought, the happier he grew, and he curled his lip at Wei Zhao. "Boy, for the Three Fairies' sake I'll pretend I never heard your foolish talk. But you're to let her keep me company and show me a good time. Once I'm properly satisfied, I'll hand the thunder tribulation point over to you afterward. How about it?"
"Not how about it." Wei Zhao looked at him as one might look at an idiot, wasted no more words on him, and turned to the crowd. "All right, everyone, disperse. The battle is over."
What did that mean? The crowd was baffled. The fight had not even begun—how was the battle over? Was the boy preparing to back down?
As everyone stood dumbfounded, exchanging bewildered glances, Wei Zhao, with an air of utter casualness, raised his hand and slapped Wang Dianxing across the face.
Was the boy sick in the head? The Lei Dong Academy crowd could hardly bear to watch. Anyone could see he was aping Wang Dianxing's earlier manner of slapping Ren Zhongyuan flying—but manner was all it was. That man was the foremost Nascent Soul cultivator, and so had the strength and the confidence to do it. Who the hell did this one think he was!
Wang Dianxing was so angry he almost laughed. His true qi shield was a defensive martial art he had cultivated specifically; even if he stood there and let the other man slap away freely, it would only exhaust the fool to death. But he would not indulge him—he at once meant to swing his hand back and see who could slap harder!
Yet before he could stretch out his hand, a soul-shaking dragon roar sounded at his ear, his ordinarily indestructible true qi shield shattered as if made of paper, and then came a shock to the brain—he had only a dazed sense that his body was no longer his own, and the ground was growing farther and farther away.
