Chapter 4851 — The Ghost-Eyed Condor King's Wings

The Blossom Guardian

"And you, Xinyan?" Wei Zhao turned to Wang Xinyan.

"I talked it over with my master earlier. She suggested I give it a try—even if it doesn't work out, I'll at least gain some experience, and with the Thunder Mystery Pill there shouldn't be any danger to my life," Wang Xinyan said.

Her cultivation was only at the mid-Nascent Soul stage for now, but given her extraordinary sponge constitution and with the aid of potent pills, it was not impossible for her to break through to Nascent Soul grand completion within three months. Of course, if she failed even to reach that by then, there would be no point in going the way of the giants—it would be a wasted trip.

"I see..." Wei Zhao mused for a moment, then decided, "Three months left. With some effort, that should just about do it. Since we're going, then the three of us will go together!"

"What?!" Wang Xinyan and Huang Xiaotao were stunned. Huang Xiaotao in particular was utterly unprepared—she pointed at herself in astonishment and said, "Me too?"

"That's right, Xiaotao, you're coming too!" Wei Zhao nodded gravely.

"But... but I haven't even formed my Nascent Soul yet..." Huang Xiaotao looked helplessly at Wei Zhao, then at Wang Xinyan. She had assumed this trip would be a private world for just Wei Zhao and Wang Xinyan—it had never crossed her mind that she would be included.

At minimum, one had to be a Nascent Soul grand completion expert to have any chance of entering the way of the giants, and now only three months remained. With her strength, it was simply impossible—going from Golden Core grand completion to Nascent Soul grand completion in three months? Not even in her dreams could she manage such a thing.

"Could it be you intend to..." Wang Xinyan seemed to catch on. Huang Xiaotao did not yet know much about Wei Zhao's abilities, but Wang Xinyan had followed him all the way from the mortal world—she knew exactly what Wei Zhao was capable of. Such a thing would be impossible for anyone else, but Wei Zhao was the exception.

"Indeed." Wei Zhao smiled faintly, inscrutable.

"So that ability of yours works even at the Nascent Soul stage? That's wonderful!" Wang Xinyan was instantly reassured.

"What on earth are you two talking about? What ability?" Huang Xiaotao was utterly baffled. She truly could not imagine any power that could get her onto the way of the giants in three months.

"You'll find out in time." Wei Zhao and Wang Xinyan exchanged a knowing smile. Though no one else was close by, this was still a crowded place full of loose tongues—better to be careful. If word of this ability got out, it would bring enormous trouble.

"So mysterious!" Huang Xiaotao puckered her lips in frustration, but she did not press further. She would find out sooner or later anyway—no need to rush.

As the three of them talked, the individual auction at last raised its curtain under the gaze of the multitude. The host was still the same white-bearded elder as last time—a familiar face, by now.

"Ladies and gentlemen, this individual auction begins now. No need for idle words—let us get straight to the point," the white-bearded elder said, abandoning his long-winded style of last time and coming straight to business. "First, let us look at item one: a pair of Ghost-Eyed Condor King's Wings. Starting bid: one hundred thousand spirit jade."

When he finished, the crowd showed no expression of delight—merely a few murmurs exchanged in private. Very few were truly interested in this pair of Ghost-Eyed Condor King's Wings.

Watching the pair of imposing black wings being carried onto the stage, Wei Zhao's eyes lit up. Setting aside their use for the moment, at least in terms of sheer appearance this thing was first-rate. One hundred thousand spirit jade might sound steep, but judging by its looks it was absolutely worth it—so why was everyone acting so dismissive?

"One hundred fifty thousand," Wei Zhao said after a moment's thought. He was already wealthy, and three days ago he had taken in a full eighty million spirit jade at once—a few hundred thousand was a drop in the bucket. Of course, Wei Zhao was no fool ready to be fleeced; no matter how much spirit jade he had, he would not toss it away for nothing. The prerequisite for throwing around money was that the item had to catch his eye.

A stir ran through the crowd—not because of the one hundred fifty thousand spirit jade, but because of Wei Zhao himself. Compared to the Ghost-Eyed Condor King's Wings, which looked impressive but were useless, this young man of astonishing background was far more worth watching.

"Do you want these Ghost-Eyed Condor King's Wings?" Wang Xinyan asked quietly.

"Not exactly. I just think they look rather fine—I don't even know what they're for. Let fate decide." Wei Zhao shook his head noncommittally. Truthfully, he did rather want them; the bid just now had been a momentary impulse. If someone else genuinely contested it, he might not keep following.

"Hm? But I've heard the Ghost-Eyed Condor King's Wings are actually rather useless. They're pricey, but all you can really do is take them home as decoration—there's seldom any occasion to put them to use. After all, they're not sharp enough for forging weapons, they have no other special purpose, and they can't be used for pill refinement or the like..." Huang Xiaotao shook her head.

And indeed that was so. If there were truly any great use for them, the others present would not be so utterly uninterested. One had to understand that even if they could be won for two hundred thousand spirit jade, the thing still had no practical value whatsoever.

Normally, two hundred thousand spirit jade could buy a Gestation Golden Pill—though it might not be guaranteed top-grade. That was the real treasure. Who would be willing to waste such a sum on a useless display piece like the Ghost-Eyed Condor King's Wings?!

After a moment's wait, a young man in the distance finally spoke up and raised the bid: "Two hundred thousand."

Wei Zhao shrugged slightly, intending to give it up—but just then, Old Ghost suddenly spoke: "This thing is not bad. Buy it—it will be useful."

Wei Zhao was startled. He had not expected the Ghost-Eyed Condor King's Wings to catch Old Ghost's eye. Without pausing to ask why, he immediately said, "Three hundred thousand."

The young man glanced at Wei Zhao, hesitated, and quickly abandoned the bidding. It seemed his attitude was much the same as Wei Zhao's a moment ago—he would take it or leave it. If two hundred thousand could buy it, he would; beyond that price, he would not keep competing.

"Three hundred thousand once, three hundred thousand twice—any further bids?" the white-bearded elder urged. The Ghost-Eyed Condor King's Wings were indeed not ideal auction goods, but this was the first item, after all—it would not do to let things go too flat.

But the crowd was clearly not foolish. Two hundred thousand spirit jade was already the limit for such a useless display piece, and now the price had reached three hundred thousand. Unless someone had a hole in their head, no one would jump out to compete with Wei Zhao.

After another moment's wait, seeing that the others remained unmoved, the white-bearded elder finally brought down the hammer: "Three hundred thousand spirit jade—sold!"
