Chapter 4682 — I Wronged You
"Hold on, before we run, let's leave some evidence behind so Brother Ren can enjoy the show later!" Li Yuzhou said as he pulled a digital camera out of his backpack.
Ren Zhongyuan had bought it specially from the Central Chamber of Commerce at great expense to curry favor with Huo Yudie, but she hadn't even glanced at it before tossing it back, so after making the rounds it had ended up in the hands of his lackey. Wherever Ren Zhongyuan went, his follower had to carry it for him—and this trip was no exception.
Click, click! Li Yuzhou snapped two shots at the scene ahead, then without a word turned and bolted. Even if the couple had been too busy with their tryst to notice him before, they'd surely notice now—only a fool would stick around!
Sun Baolu lingered for one last look, then scurried after Li Yuzhou in a panic, terrified their targets might snap out of it.
Little did they know, Wei Zhao had spotted them from the very start. The distance wasn't exactly close, and he couldn't make out what they were saying, but the training Wei Zhao had received since childhood had made constant awareness of his surroundings a killer's basic discipline—even without his divine sense, he could sense the two of them clearly.
Still, he didn't dare lock onto them with his divine sense just then. He had only sensed their presence when he noticed a flash of light, and then the two of them were gone.

It wasn't that Wei Zhao didn't want to get up and drag those two sneaky creatures back—the problem was that he was busy drawing the poison out of Huo Yudie and had to stay utterly focused. He didn't even dare release his divine sense for fear that a single lapse would disrupt him, so how could he possibly stop halfway?
Those two were of no consequence to Wei Zhao; if they ran, they ran, so long as they didn't come back to make trouble. The pressing matter at hand was to suck all the poison out of Huo Yudie's body as soon as possible. Otherwise, not only would the girl suffer, but the Thunder Mystic Vine would surely be lost as well.
Another half hour passed, until Wei Zhao's entire mouth had gone completely numb from the venom's sting. Only then did some color return to Huo Yudie's calf—finally it no longer looked so horrifying.
Huo Yudie let out a soft moan and opened her eyes. This was the normal response of pain returning after Wei Zhao had drawn out most of the toxin, but the moment she opened her eyes she gave a sharp cry of alarm. Anyone who woke to find a man with his head buried under her skirt would react the same way.
Huo Yudie was furious and mortified all at once. Even as she screamed, she lifted her leg to kick Wei Zhao flying—but the result only frightened her further. She suddenly discovered that her leg wouldn't move at all!
True, Wei Zhao had already drawn out most of the poison, but some residue remained, and her leg was the very spot where she'd been bitten. With Wei Zhao's formidable constitution, impervious to a hundred poisons, his mouth had gone numb just from sucking it out for her—so if she could have lifted her leg to kick someone at that moment, that would have been truly a ghost sighting.
"You! You great lecher! What have you done to me? Why have you frozen my body so I can't move?" Huo Yudie was so ashamed and enraged that tears came to her eyes. She was a pure, untouched maiden—she'd never even held hands with a man—so how could she bear such a sudden, enormous shock? Right then she wished she could drag this shameless wretch Wei Zhao down to hell with her.
"Huh? What nonsense are you spouting?" Wei Zhao was stunned. Then he raised his head with a puzzled look—and the devil of it was, he hadn't wiped his lips clean. A bit of drool clung there, the kind all too likely to set the imagination racing. Even more exasperating, his mouth was still numb, so his words came out muffled as though he had something stuffed in his cheeks.
At the sight, Huo Yudie nearly fainted. By now it wasn't just her leg—her entire lower half had gone numb and senseless, and Wei Zhao happened to be lying right under her skirt. She thought he had been sucking at her private parts all this time, and in a fit of shame and fury, tears streaming down her face, she bawled: "You're shameless! You're despicable!"
"Damn it!" Only then did Wei Zhao understand the misunderstanding. He stood up at once and stared at Huo Yudie coldly, face dark with displeasure. "What's your problem, girl? I risked my life to suck the deadly venom of that freak insect out of you, and you call me shameless and despicable? Fine! Since that's how it is, lie here by yourself and take your time. I'm not staying. Bye!"
His relationship with this girl had never been good to begin with, and this time he'd gone out on a limb to heal her—nobody could ask more than that. Yet she hadn't the faintest clue what was going on and had actually turned around and cursed him. Truly, no good deed goes unpunished—like a dog biting Lu Dongbin, she couldn't tell a benefactor's kindness from ill intent!
Seeing Wei Zhao pat his rear end and turn to leave without a moment's hesitation, Huo Yudie finally remembered with a jolt: she did seem to have been bitten by something, and then swiftly gone numb all over and fainted. So it really hadn't been Wei Zhao's doing after all? She had misunderstood him?
At that thought, Huo Yudie instinctively tried to move, and found that aside from the leg she'd tried to kick Wei Zhao with—which wouldn't move at all—the rest of her, though still somewhat numb, wasn't entirely immobilized. Her upper body in particular, less affected by the toxin, could mostly move freely.
"Ah!" Huo Yudie was dumbstruck. She wasn't a fool who couldn't see reason—the facts lay right before her, plain as day.
That freak insect's venom had knocked her out in the blink of an eye. With poison that vicious, the consequences of having no one to draw it out were obvious!
And now she had improved considerably, which meant Wei Zhao really had been sucking out the poison for her. It was just that the bite was in a rather private place, so the position was easy to misinterpret.
"Wait! You... wait!" Huo Yudie didn't dare hesitate another moment. She cried out and tried to scramble up and chase after Wei Zhao. She hadn't just wronged a good man—if Wei Zhao truly lost his temper and left her here, in her state, unable even to stand, being abandoned alone in this place would mean no one to turn to, no help from heaven or earth. If anything at all showed up then, the consequences didn't bear thinking about.
"What more do you want?" Wei Zhao glanced back at her and snapped irritably: "This shameless wretch keeping his distance from you ought to suit you just fine, no? Saves me from pulling any more shady tricks—a clean break is good. Don't worry, it's easier for me too. Wins all around!"
"Don't... don't go!" Huo Yudie's pretty face flushed—had it not been for her veil, one would have seen her cheeks nearly dripping blood. Her voice weak and barely audible, she murmured: "I'm sorry. I wronged you."
"Oh, so you know you were wrong. Good, that saves me from being slapped with a trumped-up charge—I couldn't bear it." Wei Zhao stopped in his tracks as he spoke. (To be continued...) R752
