Chapter 3403 — A Hard-Won Victory
Wei Zhao's eyes were bloodshot. He had never imagined that what should have been a battle certain to be won today would turn out so wretchedly. He wanted to rise and rush over to see what had happened to Yu Xiaoke, but if a biohuman caught him off guard now, he would be betraying her kindness for nothing.
Wei Zhao knew too that Yu Xiaoke's defense must have run its course. He climbed to his feet, dodged swiftly aside to avoid the attacks of Biohuman Two and Biohuman Three, and cast a glance from the corner of his eye toward Yu Xiaoke not far away. By now she had already fallen to the ground and lay motionless, while Qiu Lingshan and the others were gathered around her.
Wei Zhao wanted to see what was going on, but he had no time to spare and could only keep dodging the biohumans' attacks. Though he had repaired part of his injuries and recovered a little in the way of physical strength and true qi, Yu Xiaoke had bought him only a two-minute window. In such a brief time, it was simply impossible to recover much strength or true qi.
That was why Wei Zhao had no way to unleash the eleventh form of the Frenzied Fire Eight Trigrams Palm either. He could only keep dodging...
"What move was that girl using just now? How could it actually shield against the biohumans' attacks?" Yu Xiaoke's mental cultivation chant had left both Little Pure and the hypnotist staring blankly. Never in their lives had they witnessed anything so strange. Only after Yu Xiaoke collapsed and Wei Zhao resumed dodging did Little Pure come back to his senses.
"I have no idea. We know nothing about martial cultivation. But who cares—the girl's collapsed now, so let's see how Wei Zhao handles this!" The hypnotist was not particularly concerned about Yu Xiaoke.
"But... the time the biohumans have left is only five minutes..." Little Pure wore a bitter expression. Earlier Wei Zhao had held out for more than ten minutes, and then Yu Xiaoke had weathered another two or so, which meant the biohumans had only five minutes of life remaining—that is, if they could not finish off Wei Zhao within those five minutes, the two creatures would simply die on their own.
"Damn it!" The hypnotist was stunned for a moment before realizing the issue of time, and his brow furrowed at once. "Little Pure, keep track of the time. If they can't kill Wei Zhao, we get in the car and bolt immediately!"
"Understood!" Little Pure nodded, but he had already given up any hope for the biohumans. He began preparing to get in the car and leave.
Wei Zhao could not unleash the eleventh form of the Frenzied Fire Eight Trigrams Palm, so all he could do was dodge. The Heaven and Earth Snare was gone. Otherwise, using it now would have let him weather this crisis, but he had no weapon in hand at present.
Though he wore the Gale-Chasing Lightning Boots, which would make escape no problem at all, what about everyone else? He could not simply abandon them. And at this moment he did not know whether An Liwen still had tricks in reserve. If he fled and An Liwen turned on Qiu Lingshan and the Hidden Tang Clan, what then?
So Wei Zhao could only search for a way to break the deadlock while dodging without pause. But against a situation that looked unsolvable, even he truly could not think of any solution.
Yet after circling for some time with the two biohumans, Wei Zhao plainly noticed something strange: the speed and striking force of both creatures were declining!
As for speed, Wei Zhao could feel it very easily. After all, at the start, no sooner had he dodged their previous round of attacks than the next round came right on its heels; but now, after he dodged, he still had room to catch his breath. The two no longer moved with their former agility either.
As for force, though Wei Zhao had never taken a direct hit, he could still sense the power of their punches from the side—from the sheer momentum it was clear that these fists had shriveled from the strength of late Heaven rank experts down to that of the mid Heaven rank.
The discovery surprised Wei Zhao somewhat. Could it be that even the biohumans' physical strength and true qi were running out?
With that thought, Wei Zhao kept weaving and circling, and sure enough, what happened next confirmed his earlier guess: the two grew slower and slower, and their force smaller and smaller!
At last, at the nineteenth minute, both creatures' movements turned uncoordinated, and the force of their attacks had dropped to that of the early Heaven rank.
"We're out!" The hypnotist knew that at this rate both biohumans would die on their own and could no longer do anything to Wei Zhao, so he decisively chose to leave. If he lingered here until the biohumans died, he might well not get away.
Little Pure had seen the problem too. He started the car, ready to drive off.
"Lingshan, stop that car!" The two biohumans no longer posed any threat to Wei Zhao, so he could now spare some attention for other things. Seeing the van actually starting up, he quickly ordered Qiu Lingshan to block it.
Wei Zhao need not have said it—Qiu Lingshan had already noticed something wrong with the van; there were actually people inside it! Together with Tang Taizhong, Tang Lingtou, Tang Lao'er and Tang Yuyu, she surrounded the vehicle!
Little Pure was startled and slammed his foot on the accelerator, trying to ram straight through, but to his regret Tang Taizhong reached out and held the van back with one hand alone, so that it could not advance even half a fraction. The tires screeched shrilly against the ground, yet there was nothing the van could do to Tang Taizhong.
Never mind that Tang Taizhong could not deal with the biohumans—blocking a single van was, for a Heaven rank expert like him, a piece of cake. And Qiu Lingshan, Tang Lingtou and the others seized the chance to charge straight onto the van and drag Little Pure and the hypnotist out.
The two were not cultivators at all and had no means of resistance whatsoever. Unwilling to suffer, they could only surrender.
Just as Little Pure and the hypnotist were captured, the two biohumans happened to crash to the ground, growing utterly motionless.
This situation surprised Wei Zhao a little, though it was not wholly unexpected. He reached out to check the two biohumans' pulses and breathing; both had stopped. He was, after all, a highly skilled doctor, and could tell true death from feigned.
Only once he saw that they were truly done for did Wei Zhao hurry over to Yu Xiaoke and examine her condition.
She still had breath and a pulse, which let Wei Zhao breathe a slight sigh of relief—but the next moment, his expression turned exceedingly odd.
Yu Xiaoke's breathing and pulse were now utterly abnormal! They had, so to speak, become extremely slow, like the trance-breathing of a hibernating animal—there was still life in her, yet she was unlike a normal person!
And there was no injured part anywhere in Yu Xiaoke's body. Wei Zhao examined her once over and found that she was entirely normal in every respect! (To be continued...)
