Chapter 3401 — Underestimating the Enemy
To draw Wei Zhao's attention, Little Pure deliberately drove a slow circle around the Tang family hotel before turning to the hypnotist and saying, "We can begin."
This maneuver had been rehearsed many times before they came. Little Pure deftly injected the reagents into the three bio-humans before him, then the hypnotist began to put them under, while Little Pure drove off toward the antique shop—by his calculations, the timing would work out just right.
As it happened, Wei Zhao had spotted Little Pure the moment he circled the hotel. The move left Wei Zhao somewhat puzzled. What was this supposed to be—a provocation? Did An Liwen know he was staying at the hotel and mean to tell him outright that he was about to stage a robbery?
Or perhaps he was overthinking it. Maybe the man had simply come to scout the area, intending to rob the hotel after hitting the antique shop.
The second possibility was more likely, of course, but either way, Wei Zhao headed straight for the antique shop with the Tang family's people.
Tang Taizhong, for his part, was filled with admiration for Shen Yushu. She had said they would come robbing today—and come robbing they had.
When the van pulled up before the antique shop, they found Wei Zhao already standing at the entrance waiting for them. There were no other customers about; evidently the Tang family had cleared the place out to avoid stirring panic among the ignorant crowd.
Little Pure stopped the van. For some reason his heart was pounding. His purpose here was to bring these men to fight Wei Zhao—yet now that Wei Zhao stood waiting, he felt not the slightest joy, only a gnawing sense that something was about to go wrong.
"Hypnotist, how are things? All set?" Little Pure asked.
"No problem. I'll order them out of the van to carry out the mission!" The hypnotist nodded, then issued his commands to the five bio-humans. Three of them climbed out of the van in turn and closed in on Wei Zhao.
The order they had received this time was to surround and attack Wei Zhao. No matter who tried to interfere, they would pay them no mind—their sole purpose was to attack Wei Zhao alone.
Wei Zhao frowned slightly. Something felt off to him as well. There were still others in the van. Did this man not know that it was he who had killed the bio-humans yesterday? Why bring three more today? Did he truly think these three could be a match for him?
Six had died yesterday, and today he brought half that number—as if fewer meant stronger? There was something strange about this.
Since he could not make sense of it, Wei Zhao did not dwell on it. He simply employed yesterday's strategy: defeat them one by one.
"Frenzied Fire Fist, Tenth Form!" Wei Zhao struck at the bio-human nearest to him—Bio-human One.
"Boom!" The instant his fist smashed into the bio-human, the creature struck back without yielding an inch, driving its own fist into Wei Zhao's in a clash of pure brute force.
The force Wei Zhao had expected to absorb was nothing like what he received. The bio-human's punch sent a surge of hot blood churning through Wei Zhao's chest, and the tremendous power hurled him backward, slamming him hard onto the ground. A trickle of blood seeped from the corner of his mouth…
Late Heaven-rank! This bio-human actually possessed the external attacking power of the Late Heaven-rank! That seemingly ordinary punch had carried such explosive force that Wei Zhao had never anticipated it. He had fallen for it, taking severe internal injuries in an instant.
And that was not all. After trading blows with Wei Zhao, Bio-human One was also sent flying backward, even spitting a mouthful of blood—looking worse off than Wei Zhao. Yet it scrambled to its feet almost at once. There was a dent in its chest, but it seemed to make no difference to the creature; even its speed was undiminished as it charged at Wei Zhao once more!
Wei Zhao was aghast. These things were truly out of the ordinary!
Today's five bio-humans were on an entirely different level from yesterday's. Not only was their attack power higher, but their resistance to blows was far greater as well. A single Tenth Form Frenzied Fire Fist from Wei Zhao had done nothing to the creature before him.
Wei Zhao meant to use the Xuanyuan Dragon-Taming Art to heal the injuries in his body, but he was given no chance. Before Bio-human One could even reach him, the remaining two bio-humans had already flanked him, one on each side, and abruptly swung their fists at Wei Zhao!
Wei Zhao was startled and hastily used the Butterfly Micro-step, narrowly evading the attacks of these two bio-humans! After all, Bio-humans Two and Three seemed rather lacking in intelligence, and their mobility was likewise constrained—not nearly so agile—which was the only reason Wei Zhao could scramble up from the ground quickly enough to dodge!
But as the saying goes, you may dodge the first day but not the fifteenth. Wei Zhao had barely evaded the attacks of Bio-humans Two and Three when Bio-human One had already come up behind him and swung a fist, sending Wei Zhao sprawling headlong!
Fortunately, the jade pendant had issued a fierce warning at that very instant, preventing Bio-human One's sneak attack from landing to fullest effect. Wei Zhao had already shielded his body with true qi; though his earlier injuries had worsened considerably, at least it was not disaster piled upon disaster.
"Go to hell!" Wei Zhao spun around and brought down a Frenzied Fire Eight-Trigram Palm, Eleventh Form! He had not wanted to use this move, but the bio-human's strength was simply too great—he had no choice but to unleash his strongest technique.
"Boom…" Bio-human One met Wei Zhao blow for blow once again. Because Wei Zhao had thrown everything into the strike, he had not reserved much true qi to guard his body, so the damage he took this time was equally immense!
As Bio-human One was sent flying backward, Wei Zhao too was hurled back by the tremendous recoil, crashing thunderously to the ground.
This time, under the immense power of the Eleventh Form Frenzied Fire Eight-Trigram Palm, Bio-human One was blasted apart—its whole body reduced to fragments. There was no chance it would live again. But Wei Zhao's strength had been severely depleted, and he had taken grave internal injuries.
Yet Wei Zhao knew he could not afford to be careless. Two more bio-humans were closing in on him from behind…
Inside the van, the hypnotist watched the scene coldly and said mildly, "It seems this Wei Zhao has some skill after all. Only now he's a spent arrow."
"True enough. Let's hope these two bio-humans can finish Wei Zhao off!" Little Pure nodded, though his heart was still far from settled.
Wei Zhao, treading the assassin's supreme art of the Butterfly Micro-step, evaded the attacks of the two bio-humans. But he knew this was no solution—sooner or later, if he kept dodging, he would slip up!
Bitter complaints filled Wei Zhao's heart. He had underestimated his enemy before… (To be continued.)
